About the job Head of Sustainability
Our client, a globally recognized leader in the ultra-luxury hospitality industry, is seeking an experienced and dynamic Head of Sustainability to lead and drive their sustainability initiatives.
The Head of Sustainability will assume full responsibility for the efficient operation of the sustainability function, ensuring ongoing compliance with sustainability guidelines and the successful execution of the approved resort-specific Sustainability Action Plan. This role will be accountable for sustainability outcomes, overseeing all sustainability programs, and coordinating related training initiatives in collaboration with Human Resources and relevant departments.
Requirements:
- Must hold at least a Bachelor's degree in Environmental Management, Sustainability, or a closely related field.
- Possess strong technical skills with a minimum of four years of experience in a sustainability-related role within the hospitality industry, demonstrating proven results.
- Excellent command of written and spoken English.
- Experience in a similar ultra-luxury resort brand is a plus!
- Cross-cultural work environment exposure would be an advantage.
- Excellent analytical skills, with the ability to analyse complex sustainability and environment strategies and draw impactful insights.
- Willingness to reside in a remote location for extended periods and travel on a single-status basis.
Responsibilities:
- Ensure that all sustainability initiatives, whether for guests or team members, reach their full potential.
- Uphold and promote sustainability principles, ensuring that all brand initiatives are fully embraced, adopted, and effectively implemented within the resort.
- Manage the Sustainability Fund on a monthly basis, ensuring funds are collected and distributed transparently and effectively, while documenting the projects and initiatives it supports.
- Develop and maintain strong relationships with key community organizations, including schools, special interest groups, local government departments, and tourism associations.
- Engage regularly with the local community to ensure the property remains an active and supportive member through Sustainability Fund projects and educational or interactive sustainability activities.
- Organize and lead monthly sustainability-focused team events that are engaging, educational, and reinforce a culture of environmental responsibility.
- Connect the resort with globally recognized sustainability initiatives and citizen science programs, such as Earth Day, World Oceans Day, and the Global Shoreline Clean-Up, involving both guests and team members.
- Maintain existing partnerships with sustainability-related organizations while identifying opportunities to enhance or establish new collaborations.
- Develop strategic partnerships with organizations that align with the Sustainability Funds objectives, ensuring alignment with the broader sustainability strategy set by leadership.
- Collaborate with the Experiences team to create and lead guest activities that highlight the resorts sustainability efforts, local culture, environmental conservation, and community projects.
- Implement the most suitable sustainability practices tailored to the resorts operations, ensuring alignment with industry best practices and corporate sustainability policies.
- Drive financial performance by establishing and achieving targets related to revenue generation, profitability, and return on investment.
- Ensure compliance with all legal, financial, and statutory requirements while maintaining operational standards, reporting systems, contractual obligations, safety protocols, and budgetary controls for the successful management of the resort.
