Job Opportunity: Flight Instructor (M/F/X)
Purpose of the Job
The Helicopter Instructor Pilot at X-Aero Training Academy is responsible for training pilots and enhancing their skills within the center's training programs, both in Visual Flight Rules (VFR) and Instrument Flight Rules (IFR). The role ensures compliance with aviation safety standards and supports the pedagogical development of trainees. The instructor focuses on the training and proficiency improvement of multi-engine helicopter pilots, especially in Helicopter Emergency Medical Services (HEMS) operations, utilizing advanced techniques such as Night Vision Goggles (NVG) flying.
Working Relationships
- Reports to the Training Manager of the Approved Training Organization (ATO) based on operational needs and schedules.
- Regular interactions with other instructors, trainees, and administrative staff.
- Collaborates closely with the maintenance department to ensure the availability and compliance of aircraft used during training sessions.
Key Responsibilities
- Deliver theoretical and practical training (VFR and IFR), including courses on HEMS operations with multi-engine helicopters.
- Conduct training flights under various conditions, including day, night, and on Flight Simulation Training Devices (FSTD).
- Evaluate pilot competencies in safety, mission management, and use of onboard systems.
- Participate in HEMS training missions alongside the airline team.
- Accompany pilots during training flights to ensure adherence to safety procedures.
- Keep pilot knowledge current with regulatory and technological developments.
- Maintain personal flight qualifications and certifications through regular training.
- Perform administrative tasks related to training programs.
- Develop and update training programs in accordance with regulatory standards (EASA).
- Tailor course content based on HEMS mission feedback and technological advances.
- Maintain comprehensive records of trainee progress and provide regular reports to the ATO management.
- Operate Instructor Operator Station (IOS) for supervising and evaluating flight simulation sessions.
Responsibilities and Autonomy
The instructor plays a critical role in training competent pilots while upholding high safety standards. Decision-making autonomy is granted primarily in pedagogical approaches and in-flight decisions, within the boundaries of regulatory norms and internal procedures.
Safety and Compliance
- Responsible for ensuring safety during training flights.
- Ensure compliance with regulatory and ATO-established procedures (EASA standards).
- Participate in program development with the training center management, enhancing training materials, operation manuals, and organizational processes.
Specific Professional Knowledge
- Valid Commercial Pilot License (CPL(H) or ATPL(H)) with IR/PBN rating and instructor certifications (FI(H) and/or TRI(H)); IRI certification is a plus.
- Proven experience as a professional pilot and instructor on helicopter types such as EC135, EC145, and/or AW109; IOS experience is advantageous.
- Strong knowledge of aviation regulations and safety procedures (Part-FCL, EASA, etc.).
- Proficiency in managing emergency situations and training students in risk management.
- Fluent in aviation English (minimum ICAO Level 4).
Technical and Pedagogical Expertise
- In-depth knowledge of IFR flight rules, navigation procedures, onboard equipment (GPS, VOR, ILS), and civil aviation standards.
- Ability to teach complex concepts clearly, adapt instructional methods to different learning levels, and provide constructive feedback for performance improvement.
Practical and Theoretical Training
- Conduct IFR technique instruction in simulated environments for safety validation, followed by real-world application.
- Training in IFR flight planning, emergency management, and understanding aviation charts and procedures.
Supervision and Evaluation
- Observe, assess, and guide student progress while adhering to rigorous standards.
- Ensure students achieve the required competency levels for IFR certification while maintaining applicable safety and regulatory standards.
Location: ALBERTVILLE - France
Compensation: 72,000 to 100,000 annually, depending on experience.
