VACANCY: Accountant
REPORTING TO: Group Financial Officer
LOCATION: Durban
Starlite Aviation Group has a requirement for a detail-oriented, problem-solving and analytical individual to fill a position as an Accountant. The role will be based in Durban.
KEY JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Raising sales invoices, allocating receipts and weekly reconciliation of customer accounts.
- Assist management with recovery of debt from customers as and when required.
- Processing supplier invoices in the accounting software using correct GL allocation, Project allocation and VAT guidelines.
- Processing payments in the accounting software.
- Requesting regular statement of account from Suppliers to ensure accounting records are updated and reconciled weekly
- Organise payment of supplier invoices when due.
- Save all supplier invoices on the Finance Folder as indicated by Senior Accountants using correct file naming guidelines.
- Update exchange rates regularly in the accounting system.
- Process bank transactions daily into the Accounting System and perform monthly bank reconciliation.
- Assist Team Members with any queries in relation to cash book transactions.
- Dealing with the bank as and when required.
- Managing petty cash and credit card including posting and reconciliation in the accounting software on a regular basis.
- Prepare weekly cash flow and assist the Group Financial controller with working capital management.
- Preparation of VAT returns in line with VAT legislations.
- Posting of month end journals, including depreciation, prepayment and accruals.
- Maintain Asset list and Fixed asset register for various companies in Durban.
- Preparation of monthly management accounts.
- Assist the Tax manager with Tax computation and queries as and when required.
- Assist the Audit manager with Audit of financial statements, Audit schedules and queries as and when required.
- Assist the Group Financial Controller in the preparation of Forecast and Budgets as and when required.
- Assist the Chief Financial Officer in handling insurance matters, including renewal and claims.
- Managing inventory items including regular stock count and reconciliation in the accounting software.
- Assist Senior Accountants to keep Company Registry and KYC documents up to date.
- Assist managers and directors on the day-to-day running of operations.
- Ad-hoc duties as might be assigned from time to time.

- Ability to work within a team.

- Willingness to learn and go above and beyond.
QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE:
The following is essential for this position:
- Accounting Degree (CA (SA), ACCA or equivalent).
- SAGE Evo experience would be adventurous.
- Minimum 2 years experience in an Accountant Position.
- In depth knowledge of accepted accounting practices, statutory returns and balance sheet reconciliations.
