Tax Manager / Senior Tax Professional

Position Summary

In this role, you will work closely with clients to understand their business operations, financial goals, and tax needs while helping them achieve long-term success. Responsibilities include managing various tax compliance functions, preparing tax projections, responding to tax notices, supporting special projects, and building strong client relationships through proactive communication and trusted advisory services.

Key Responsibilities

  • Maintain compliance with professional standards and ethical guidelines established by the firm and the AICPA.
  • Protect client confidentiality in accordance with firm policies and industry regulations.
  • Deliver exceptional client service by demonstrating professionalism, responsiveness, and a commitment to exceeding expectations.
  • Assist clients with routine inquiries, tax audits, and correspondence with federal and state tax agencies.
  • Serve as a primary point of contact for assigned clients by providing updates, addressing questions, and managing communication throughout engagements.
  • Ensure timely, high-quality client service by supervising team members and overseeing engagement progress from start to finish.
  • Advise clients on the tax impact of business decisions and recommend strategic alternatives when appropriate.
  • Lead the planning, execution, administration, and completion of tax engagements.
  • Review tax returns, tax research, and written tax guidance prepared by staff members.
  • Prepare and/or oversee the preparation of tax accrual workpapers.
  • Stay informed on current tax law changes and evaluate how developments may affect clients.
  • Identify technical tax matters and collaborate with partners and subject matter experts to resolve issues efficiently.
  • Recognize and escalate potential engagement risks to firm leadership when necessary.
  • Meet established productivity and billable hour goals.
  • Promote collaboration and teamwork across the department and firm.
  • Mentor, train, and support interns and staff members on tax software, processes, and professional development.
  • Facilitate internal training sessions and contribute to the ongoing growth of the tax team.
  • Assist in developing and improving departmental policies, procedures, and best practices.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's or Master's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field
  • Active CPA license required
  • 5–12 years of public accounting experience preferred
  • Minimum of 2 years of supervisory or team leadership experience
  • Strong understanding of accounting principles and Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP)
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications and tax software
  • Excellent organizational, written, and verbal communication skills
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines in a fast-paced, collaborative environment
