Job Summary
The Staff Accountant will play a critical role in maintaining accurate financial records, preparing financial statements, managing reconciliations, and supporting the property management operations. The ideal candidate will possess a strong background in real estate accounting, proficiency in Microsoft Excel, and experience with Entrata or similar property management accounting software.
Key Responsibilities
- General Accounting: Ensure accurate and timely financial reporting, account coding, and journal entries.
- Accounts Payable: Review vendor invoicing, reconcile vendor balances, and process vendor payments promptly.
- Cash Management: Monitor and maintain cash balances.
- Month-End Close & Reporting: Assist in the preparation of monthly financial statements, investor reports, and budget variance analysis.
- Bank & Account Reconciliations: Perform monthly reconciliations of bank, escrow, and credit card accounts, ensuring reconciling items are resolved in a timely manner.
- General Ledger Maintenance: Prepare journal entries for reclassifications and accruals, ensuring proper allocation of expenses and revenues.
- Journal Entries: Record entries for payroll, loans, escrows, capital expenditures, depreciation, and equity contributions/distributions.
- Client & Lender Reporting: Assist in ensuring timely client and lender reporting requirements are met.
- Budgeting & Forecasting: Support property budgeting and forecasting processes.
- Tax & Compliance: Assist with tax filings, 1099 processing, and ensure compliance with GAAP and real estate regulations.
- Audit Support: Prepare necessary documentation and respond to internal and external audit inquiries.
- Additional Duties: Perform other duties as directed and assigned.
Required Qualifications
- Education: Bachelors degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field.
- Experience: Minimum 3+ years of accounting experience.
- Real Estate Background: Experience in real estate accounting within private investment and/or property management.
- Technical Skills:
- Proficiency in Microsoft Excel (Pivot Tables, VLOOKUP).
- Experience with Entrata or similar property management accounting software preferred.
- Work Environment:
- Ability to sit at a desk for 8+ hours per day.
- Certification: CPA or CPA track preferred but not required.
