BigCommerce Developer

Our client is launching a new subsidiary/company and seeks a BigCommerce developer to create their eCommerce site. The role involves significant participation in the site's development, followed by maintenance responsibilities after it goes live. 



Essential Backend Skills

Programming Languages Strong proficiency in server-side languages like PHP, Python, Ruby, or Java. Familiarity with object-oriented programming principles is crucial.

Databases: Experience with relational databases like MySQL or PostgreSQL, including data modeling, querying, and optimization.

APIs and Integrations: Understanding of APIs and experience building integrations with external systems like payment gateways, shipping providers, CRMs, and marketing platforms.

Version Control Systems: Familiarity with Git or another version control system for code collaboration and management.

BigCommerce Specific Expertise

BigCommerce Stencil Themes: Understanding of Stencil templating language and ability to build custom themes or modify existing ones.

BigCommerce APIs: Proficiency in the BigCommerce Orders API, Storefront API, and GraphQL API for building custom functionalities and integrations.

BigCommerce Architecture: Knowledge of the BigCommerce platform architecture, including headless commerce options and serverless functions.

BigCommerce Best Practices: Familiarity with BigCommerce best practices for performance optimization, SEO, and security.

Additional Qualifications

Frontend development knowledge: While not essential, understanding HTML, CSS, and JavaScript can be helpful for troubleshooting frontend issues related to backend code.

E-commerce experience: Prior experience working on e-commerce projects is a plus, especially with BigCommerce or similar platforms.

Problem-solving skills: Strong analytical and problem-solving skills are crucial for debugging complex issues and finding optimal solutions.

Communication skills: Excellent communication skills to collaborate effectively with designers, frontend developers, and other stakeholders.

Bonus points

BigCommerce Certifications like BigDev or Stencil Developer

Experience with headless commerce architectures and frameworks like Nuxt.js or Gatsby

Experience with serverless functions and cloud platforms like AWS Lambda

Security: Knowledge of web security best practices, including data encryption, authorization, and authentication. PCI compliance is essential for e-commerce.
