Location: Multiple CA locations (Irvine, Woodland Hills, Downtown Los Angeles, San Ramon, San Jose, San Francisco, Century City, El Segundo)
Salary: $195K–$265K base (DOE & location)
Overview
A growing public accounting firm is seeking a Tax Director to lead high-net-worth individual and fiduciary tax engagements. This role focuses on complex tax planning and compliance across estate, gift, and trust matters, along with team leadership and business development.
Key Responsibilities
- Review complex tax returns for high-net-worth individuals, including closely held entities, trusts, estates, and gift tax filings
- Advise clients on tax implications of personal and business transactions
- Lead large, multi-client engagements, ensuring quality, timelines, and profitability
- Conduct and oversee research on complex tax issues; prepare technical memoranda
- Mentor and develop managers and supervisors; oversee engagement workflow, budgets, and staffing
- Collaborate across service lines to identify and drive cross-selling opportunities
- Participate in business development efforts and client relationship expansion
- Contribute to thought leadership through publications, training, and speaking engagements
- Stay current on tax law changes and provide guidance and training internally
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Tax, Finance, or related field
- Active CPA, EA or JD
- 8+ years of public accounting tax experience
- 4+ years in a leadership/managerial role
- Strong expertise in high-net-worth individual, trust, estate, and gift taxation
- Deep knowledge of federal, state, and local tax regulations
- Proven ability to lead teams and manage complex client engagements
Preferred
- Master's in Taxation or Accounting
