This position is responsible for the direct and indirect nursing care of the unit patient. This position requires knowledge of departmental and hospital policies relevant to the delivery of nursing care. Interpretive skills and frequent interactive and consultive associations are inherent in this position.

Responsibilities:

  • Facilitates, implements, and evaluates the Patient Plan of Care and outcomes.
  • Collaborates with the health care team to promote positive patient outcomes.
  • Is seen as a patient advocate. Timely implementation of nursing interventions.
  • Technical Skills: demonstrates appropriate clinical skills and technical competence in providing patient care.
  • Critical Thinking: demonstrates appropriate clinical judgment. Assesses, analyzes, and communicates patient information in a timely manner.
  • Documentation: Accurately and promptly document all patient assessments, interventions, responses and provider communication.
  • Assess patient safety risk factors and identify those patients requiring specific safety interventions including skin integrity, fall risk & appropriate use of restraints.
  • Follows medication safety policy.
  • Promptly initiates appropriate interventions for safety needs.
  • Completes Safety Tracking Tools as required.
  • Delegation and supervision: supervise assigned staff, delegates appropriately, takes responsibility for all care provided to patients assigned.
  • Reports all performance issues of team members to ensure all patients receive appropriate care and attention.
  • Educational needs of patient: Assesses educational needs of patient and family, provides appropriate written and verbal instructions.
  • Documents assessment and education provided.
  • Provider orders: Performs ongoing review, initiation, and implementation of patient orders in a timely manner every shift.
  • Prioritization: prioritizes responsibilities and issues, taking into account urgency, patient needs, and seeks appropriate resources. Problem solved independently.
  • Multitasks efficiently and demonstrates effective time management skills.
  • Professional Accountability: Independently seeks out other clinical experiences to enhance knowledge base.
  • Actively assists others and accepts additional duties or assignments.
  • Timely completion of assigned education and annual competencies.
  • Actively engaged in unit-based councils and performance improvement.
  • Recognizes unit needs and works to help facilitate solutions.

Education:
  • RN Diploma/RN Graduate Program

Credentials:

  • RN - Registered Nurse
  • BLS - Basic Life Saving certification
  • ACLS - Advanced Cardiac Life Support
  • NIH - Stroke Certification

Competencies and skills:

  • Experience In Hospital or Acute Care Setting. Preferred.
  • RN, Graduate of an accredited School of Nursing. Bachelors degree Preferred.
  • 2 years nursing experience caring for Step Down level of care patients including cardiothoracic surgery patients, Preferred.
  • Ability to perform CPR. ACLS and BLS certification. NIH certification. PCCN certification within 2 years of start date. Clinical Ladder within 2 years of start date. Cardiac Surgery Certification (CSC) within 3 years of start date. CSU- ALS Certification within 3 years of start date. Required.
  • ACLS, Current licensure as a Registered Nurse in the State of Delaware. Required.

  • Able To Withstand Crisis Situations
  • Has Skills to Provides Customer Service to Patients, Team Members and Visitors
