Job Description
We are looking for talented and creative “3D Modellers and character designers” for creating game characters for use in Unreal Engine.
Preferred Requirements:
- Sculpt and model compelling, 3D characters, according to the game style and art direction
- Create additional character assets such as hair, clothing, armour, weapons, etc.
- Texture the characters and character assets
- Create convincing materials, reflecting the art direction of the project
- Work in a collaborative spirit both within the team and with other departments, such as Concept Art, Animation, Rigging, Game Design, etc. to ensure the successful completion and top quality of the game
- Being able to set up animations in Unreal using animation graph is a plus
- Good knowledge of Unreal Engine’ Animation framework (Animation Sequence, Animation Montage, Blend Spaces, Control Rig) is a huge plus
- Collaborate with Character artists to remove any problems with Topology that are preventing good deformation
- Ability to create custom flipbook textures using Embergen, Houdini, MAYA, Blender or any other technique and software of choice.
- Good grip on Unreal Engine material system to create materials for use with sprites, meshes, Ribbons
- Basic modelling skills and UV unwrapping
Skills & Experience
- Experience in digital sculpting, modelling, UV mapping, texturing
- Excellent understanding of shading, lighting, structure, texturing and silhouette
- Be proficient in one of the following:
- Marvelous Designer
- Houdini (Procedural Mesh)
- Zbrush
- MAYA/Blender
- MAYA XGen
- Substance Painter
- Google Sketchup (Architecture/Interior design workflow)
- Vision to take simple 2D sketch to fully realized 3D model
- Skilled in hard-surface modeling
- Understanding of mesh topology and edge loops
- Deliver clean and optimized low polygon models, and efficient UV layouts according to the
- project’s technical requirements;
- Think creatively, and search for relevant references from various sources, to solve daily artistic challenges;
- High level of artistic skills, strong sense of design
- Knowledge of anatomy – proportions, muscle and skeletal structures
- Understanding of form, shape language and color
- Ability to work from reference materials such as photography or concept art
- Good time management skills, ability to meet deadlines
- Good communication skills, ability to work with multiple departments on all their needs and constraints specific to Video Game Character Artists: passion for playing video games, knowledge of various game genres and trends
