About the Role
We are seeking a senior leader to head our capacity-building and ecosystem-strengthening programs for climate NGOs in India. This role will be responsible for designing, scaling, and delivering multi-stakeholder initiatives that build institutional, leadership, and programmatic capacities of climate-focused organizations.
The Head of Programs will work closely with donors, NGO leadership, technical experts, and government partners to ensure our programs drive measurable impact and strengthen the climate action ecosystem in India.
Key Responsibilities
Program Leadership & Strategy
Lead the design and implementation of capacity-building programs for climate NGOs, networks, and grassroots organizations
Develop program frameworks, toolkits, and learning curricula to strengthen organizational and leadership capacities
Ensure alignment of programs with donor priorities, climate action goals, and sectoral needs
Stakeholder Engagement
Act as the primary interface with donors, government partners, and key stakeholders
Represent the organization at high-level forums, networks, and climate convenings
Build partnerships with academic institutions, think tanks, and global climate capacity platforms
Team & Delivery Management
Build and lead a high-performing program team
Oversee program planning, budgets, timelines, and reporting
Ensure effective monitoring, evaluation, and learning systems are in place
Thought Leadership
Contribute to strategy on positioning Climate Asia/Arthan as a leader in climate capacity strengthening
Author thought pieces, programmatic reports, and donor-facing communication materials
Identify new opportunities for ecosystem interventions and scale-up
Qualifications & Experience
- Strong track record in capacity building, leadership development, or ecosystem strengthening initiatives (preferably in climate, environment)
- Experience engaging with international donors, multilateral agencies, and government stakeholders
- Demonstrated ability to lead teams, manage multi-stakeholder partnerships, and oversee complex projects
- 10-15 years of professional experience in the climate sector, with at least 5-10 years in program leadership roles
- Strong written and verbal communication skills, including donor and public-facing communication
