Thematic: Urban Climate Change
Location: Mumbai (Full Time)
Role: A lead position for our new flagship programme focussed on building climate resilience and adaptation in urban locations (Tier 2/3/4 cities). Our Interventions will include solving for Heat Stress and Urban Waste Management including wastewater. The programme will also work at the intersection of urban climate change and livelihoods. The Programme Head will report to the CEO of the Foundation.
Key Responsibilities
- Building and leading a dedicated team for the above programme at Mumbai and state/city level
- Developing a detailed programme design, approach and operational plan with clearly defined timelines, budgets, possible collaborations, goals and resource requirements, which are aligned to government budgets and priorities
- Identification, evaluation, due diligence and monitoring of specific projects/grantees for implementation in the cities of choice
- Building innovation and creative ideas into the programme design
- Building & managing government relationships at both the city and state level
- Displaying leadership qualities to work with multiple stakeholders i.e. implementations partners, technical experts, relevant government functionaries, Board and team members, to ensure there is clear alignment of goals
- Creating opportunities for collaborations and scaling the programme with other like- minded funders
- Working with the Foundations senior team members, including M&E, to build awareness around the programme and ensure a strong ToC is established from the start
- Establish HTPF as a nodal, go-to Foundation within the next 2-3 years for this thematic.
Required Experience and Competencies - Master's Degree or higher: Development Studies, Environmental Science, Climate Change, Sustainable Development, or a related field.
- Additional certifications: Specialized training or certifications in urban climate resilience, sustainable urban development, project management (e.g., PMP), waste management or related areas are advantageous.
Work Experience - At least 12 years of development sector experience should include managing programmes across multiple locations preferably in urban cities.
- Additional experience of managing programmes focussed on urban climate issues will be a definite plus
- Experience of designing and building programmes from ideation to scale
- Experience in working with municipal governments, urban planners, NGOs etc
