Lead - Climate Insurance

About the Role:

On behalf of one of our client organizations, Arthan is hiring a senior professional to lead the design and piloting of climate insurance products tailored to the needs of workers across South and Southeast Asia. This role is a unique opportunity to shape inclusive, impact-driven insurance solutions that build resilience against climate risks, with a focus on innovation, financial feasibility, and on-ground deployment.

The role involves close collaboration with regional teams, insurance sector stakeholders, and implementation partners to move product concepts from ideation to market-ready pilots and scale.

Key Responsibilities:

1. Product Conceptualization & Strategy

• Identify climate insurance opportunities in collaboration with country teams.
• Engage insurance companies, reinsurers, insuretechs, distributors, and financial service providers to assess feasibility.
• Design high-level climate insurance product concepts for further development.

2. Prototype Development & Pilot Preparation

• Build product prototypes through consultation with stakeholders.
• Collaborate with insurers/reinsurers to finalize product design, negotiate features, and pricing.
• Draft product notes and pilot plans to prepare for rollout.

3. Pilot Implementation Support

• Coordinate with country teams and implementation partners to support field rollout.
• Train internal teams and partner organizations on product delivery.
• Serve as a point of contact for insurers/reinsurers during implementation.

4. Monitoring & Scale-Up Strategy

• Monitor product performance during the pilot phase and identify areas for improvement.
• Work with leadership to develop a scale-up pathway for successful products.

Minimum Qualifications:

• 8-10 years of experience in the insurance or financial services sector.
• Demonstrated experience in climate insurance and/or parametric insurance.
• Ability to engage and negotiate with key insurance ecosystem players.
• Regional exposure, especially in India, Indonesia, Bangladesh, Nepal, or the Philippines.

Preferred Qualifications:

• Proven track record in insurance product design, prototyping, and pilot rollout.
• Experience in microinsurance or products targeting low-income or informal populations.
• Strong understanding of regional regulatory and insurance market dynamics.
• Prior work experience in India and Indonesia is an advantage.
• Empathy and ability to work with grassroots organizations and community-facing teams.
