About the job Chief Executive Officer
About Project Tech4Dev
Project Tech4Dev works with nonprofits to turn big missions into bigger impact using technology as an enabler. We build platforms — Glific, Dalgo, Avni, and Kaapi — that help changemakers reach further, faster. And through our Fractional CxO Program, we place seasoned tech leaders right inside nonprofits, so no organisation has to navigate technology alone. Today, that means working with 250+ NGOs, powered by a team of 60 people who believe deeply in this work, hosting 12+ events a year that bring the community together, and managing a budget of more than ₹20 Cr. Project Tech4Dev's platform heads own their P&L and operate independently but collaboratively with their peers. Tech4Dev is leading the way in technology, data, and AI in India's development sector. Our ambitions include expanding our impact and reach across the Global Majority.
About the Role
Project Tech4Dev is seeking a Chief Executive to lead the organisation into its next phase. This is the senior-most operating role: a strategic builder-operator who owns the organisation's growth, sustainability, and impact.
You will lead fundraising, oversee the platforms and the leaders who run them, and own the administrative, financial, and operational backbone of a 60-person, remote-first organisation that is set to grow roughly 50% in headcount and budget over the next three years. The platform heads and the CFO will report to you, and you will report to the Founder. The founder will mainly focus on international fundraising and Tech4Dev Global going forward.
This is an executive leadership role for someone who can set both strategic direction and goals. You need not be an engineer — but as a technology organisation, you must be technically fluent enough to lead technical people, judge product and market trade-offs, and represent Tech4Dev's technology, data, and AI work credibly to funders and partners. You will be the external face of the organisation, focusing on fundraising, strengthening and nurturing relationships with the community, and steering the organisation into new frontiers.
Salary Range: 70-80 LPA | Location: Remote-first
Key Responsibilities
1. Fundraising, Partnerships & New Frontiers
- Be the organization's ambassador with funders, partners, and media, and position it as the thought leader on technology, data, and AI in development
- Own the fundraising strategy and target; personally cultivate and close across individual donors, philanthropic foundations, and CSR partners
- Build and run the funder pipeline — proposals, grant development, donor reporting, and compliance
- Drive new frontiers — lead 1–2 experiments a year and pursue expansion regionally and across the Global Majority Countries
2. People & Remote-First Organisation Building
- Build and lead the senior team; hire senior talent and build the leadership bench as the organisation grows
- Steward a high-trust, accountable culture across a fully distributed, remote-first team
- Consistently communicate the org goals, new learnings and way forward to the team
3. Organisation, Product & Finance
- Own the strategy, annual plan, and P&L, balancing funds raised against program and G&A spend
- Lead the platform heads — align platform roadmaps with overall organizational strategy and funding, and make credible product and architecture tradeoffs
- Hold platforms accountable for adoption, impact, and long-term sustainability
- Oversee the CFO and the financial, legal, and operational backbone, building the systems for an organisation scaling past its current stage
Ideal Candidate Profile
- We are particularly interested in builder-operators making a deliberate move into the social sector — for example, an entrepreneur or senior operator who has raised capital, built and scaled products and teams, and now wants to apply that experience to impact at scale.
- The strongest candidates combine commercial and technical firepower with genuine humility about the social sector and a durable commitment to its mission.
- Builder-operator track record — has built, scaled, and run an organisation, business unit, or venture; comfortable owning a P&L, hiring senior people, building a robust team culture, and standing up finance and operations from the ground up.
- Fundraising or capital-raising ability — a track record of raising money and managing sophisticated counterparties (individual donors, philanthropic foundations, and CSR); able to build a narrative, run a pipeline, and close proposals.
- Product & platform judgment — experience building or overseeing software products or platforms; Comfort with open-source, community-driven, or developer-ecosystem models is a plus.
- Commercial SaaS experience is not required — what matters is the ability to make platforms adopted, impactful, and sustainable.
- Leads by influence — can set direction and hold senior peers accountable, and partner effectively with a Founder and Board rather than operate in a vacuum.
- Durable mission commitment — a considered, long-term move into impact rather than a sabbatical; prior engagement with the social sector (board service, giving, advisory, volunteering) is a strong positive signal.
Required Experience
- Senior operating leadership — founder, CEO, or business-unit leader — with ownership of a P&L or comparable accountability
- Demonstrated success raising capital or funds and managing donor, investor, and partner relationships
- Track record of building or scaling teams, functions, and operating systems
- Sufficient technical fluency to lead technical leaders and make credible product and market decisions in a technology organisation
Preferred Experience
- Existing relationships across individual donors, CSR, and foundations
- Prior engagement or volunteering with the development, social-impact, or tech-for-good sector
- Comfort building and communicating an AI/data narrative to non-technical audiences
- Comfort with remote-first, distributed organisations
