Position Overview
The Vice President of Finance reports directly to the Chief Executive Officer and Chief Operating Officer, playing a mission-critical role in scaling financial operations, controlling costs, and driving strategic insights. This executive position oversees all accounting and finance functions with authority above the controller level and provides hands-on leadership in rebuilding the accounting team. With strong performance, the position offers growth potential into a Chief Financial Officer role within 2+ years.
Key Responsibilities
Strategic Finance Leadership
- Advise senior executives on profitability, growth, and strategic initiatives
- Develop and implement financial controls, policies, and systems for scalable growth
- Build and maintain executive-level financial dashboards, and deliver routine analysis and reporting
- Lead accounting functions including transactional oversight, inventory, purchasing, and work-in-progress (WIP)
- Manage all financial reporting through industry-specific systems (such as Sage Intacct)
- Ensure compliance with GAAP and support audit, tax, and regulatory processes
- Collaborate across operations for management of construction, maintenance, and services accounting
- Analyze business unit performance across multiple lines, support divestitures and focus on core operations
- Oversee current accounting staff with authority to scale and rebuild the department (including hiring a controller)
- Mentor and develop finance team while instilling a culture of accountability and continuous improvement
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related discipline; CPA, CMA, or MBA highly preferred
- 10+ years of progressive finance and accounting leadership in mid-sized, operational organizations
- Experience in construction, maintenance, inventory, or service-driven industries strongly preferred
- Proficiency in transactional accounting, inventory/purchasing, and WIP/job costing reporting
- Advanced skill in Excel, Microsoft Suite; familiarity with Sage Intacct or similar industry platforms
- Proven strength in financial analysis, dashboard/report creation, and hands-on financial operations
- Collaborative, hands-on leader with demonstrated success in building/rebuilding teams
