About the job Controller
Arkansas Talent Group is exclusively working with an established and growing company in the construction and services industry is seeking a Controller to lead its accounting operations and financial reporting functions. This hands-on leadership role will oversee the full accounting cycle, ensure reporting accuracy, strengthen internal controls, and develop scalable processes to support continued growth. The ideal candidate combines strong technical accounting skills with process improvement experience and a systems mindset.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead month-end, quarter-end, and year-end close processes to produce timely and accurate financial statements.
- Prepare, review, and approve journal entries, reconciliations, accruals, and supporting schedules.
- Maintain a well-documented and reconciled balance sheet.
- Design, implement, and monitor internal controls across all accounting areas, including purchasing, inventory, cash, revenue, and payroll.
- Establish accounting policies and procedures that align with company growth and long-term goals.
- Oversee accounts payable, accounts receivable, billing, fixed assets, inventory, and cost accounting.
- Recommend and implement improvements to accounting systems, workflows, and integrations.
- Streamline manual processes and support automation initiatives to improve accuracy and efficiency.
- Develop and maintain SOPs to promote consistency, cross-training, and audit readiness.
- Provide financial insight and support to company leadership for decision-making.
- Lead, mentor, and develop a small accounting team.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting, CPA preferred.
- Strong understanding of GAAP and accounting best practices.
- 5-7+ years of progressive accounting experience, including close process ownership and team leadership.
- Proven experience with accounting software systems and advanced Excel proficiency.
- Experience with project accounting and job costing is highly preferred, Service & Construction highly desired and/or experience with recurring revenue.
- Demonstrated ability to identify process improvements and implement system enhancements.
- Strong analytical, organizational, and communication skills.
- CPA certification preferred but not required.
