Arkansas Talent Group is seeking a detail-oriented and motivated Accounting Assistant to join the finance team at a respected local college in North Little Rock, Arkansas. This is a unique opportunity to step into a high-visibility role where you will serve as the direct assistant to the CFO and collaborate closely with the Office of the President. As a contract-to-permanent position, this role offers the right candidate a clear pathway to a long-term home in higher education finance.

In this role, you will be apart of the backbone of the institution's day-to-day accounting operations, handling a full range of transactional accounting duties that keep the college's financial engine running smoothly. From accounts payable and receivable to bank and credit card reconciliations, journal entries, and month-end close support, you will gain hands-on experience across the entire accounting cycle while working alongside senior leadership who are invested in your growth.

Key Responsibilities

  • Accounts Payable & Receivable: Process vendor invoices, manage payment cycles, generate customer invoices, post incoming payments, and maintain accurate subledger records
  • Bank & Credit Card Reconciliations: Perform monthly reconciliations for all bank and credit card accounts, identifying and resolving discrepancies in a timely manner
  • Journal Entries: Prepare and post standard and adjusting journal entries with supporting documentation
  • Month-End Close Support: Assist the CFO with month-end close activities, including accruals, prepaids, and financial statement preparation
  • Data Entry & Record Maintenance: Ensure accurate and timely entry of financial data into the accounting system and maintain organized, audit-ready files
  • Executive Support: Provide direct accounting and administrative support to the CFO and assist with financial reporting and special projects as needed by the President's office
  • Cross-Functional Collaboration: Work with departments across the college to ensure proper coding, approvals, and compliance with institutional policies

Qualifications

  • Associate's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field (Bachelor's degree preferred)
  • 2+ years of hands-on accounting experience, preferably in higher education, non-profit, or a similar multi-fund environment
  • Proficiency with accounting software (e.g., QuickBooks, Sage, Banner, Workday, or similar ERP/financial systems)
  • Advanced Microsoft Excel skills (pivot tables, VLOOKUP, formulas)
  • Strong understanding of AP, A/R, general ledger, and reconciliation processes
  • High degree of accuracy, attention to detail, and organizational skills
  • Professional communication skills and the ability to interact effectively with leadership and staff across departments
  • Self-starter with the ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines
