- Assist with payroll tax filings, quarterly payroll reporting, W-2 preparation, 1099 preparation, and related compliance documentation as assigned.
- Maintain organized client files and supporting documentation in accordance with firm procedures and applicable retention requirements.
- Review accounting records for accuracy, completeness, and unusual activity; identify discrepancies and resolve issues proactively.
- Communicate directly with clients to request information, clarify transactions, answer bookkeeping questions, and follow up on outstanding documentation.
- Assist CPAs and firm leadership with tax-season preparation, year-end close, tax workpaper support, audit support, and other client accounting projects.
- Support the implementation, cleanup, conversion, and ongoing optimization of QuickBooks files and accounting processes.
- Manage competing deadlines across multiple clients while maintaining a high standard of service, responsiveness, confidentiality, and accuracy.
- Perform other bookkeeping, payroll, and client-accounting responsibilities as needed.
Qualifications
- Associate's degree, bachelor's degree, bookkeeping certification, or equivalent combination of relevant accounting education and experience preferred.
- Three or more years of progressive bookkeeping, accounting, payroll, or client accounting services experience preferred.
- Prior experience supporting multiple clients, entities, or company files is strongly preferred; public accounting or CPA-firm experience is a significant plus.
- Strong working knowledge of QuickBooks Online and/or QuickBooks Desktop, including general ledger management, bank reconciliations, reporting, journal entries, payroll, and file maintenance.
- Demonstrated experience processing payroll and supporting payroll tax reporting for one or more businesses.
- Solid understanding of accounts payable, accounts receivable, bank reconciliations, general ledger accounting, payroll liabilities, and financial statement preparation.
- Experience with multi-entity accounting, intercompany activity, and account allocations is highly desirable.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Excel and comfort working with spreadsheets, financial reports, exported data, and supporting schedules.
- Exceptional attention to detail, accuracy, organization, and ability to consistently meet deadlines.
- Strong critical-thinking and problem-solving skills, including the ability to investigate discrepancies and take initiative in resolving them.
- Professional communication skills and the ability to build productive, service-oriented relationships with clients and colleagues.
- Ability to handle confidential client, payroll, tax, and financial information with sound judgment and discretion.
