The Chef Instructor is responsible for delivering high-quality culinary education, specializing in a particular area of the kitchen. The role involves developing and executing instructional materials, mentoring students, and maintaining the highest standards of kitchen operations. The Chef Instructor will play a pivotal role in shaping the culinary skills and professional behaviour of aspiring chefs, ensuring they are well-prepared for successful careers in the culinary arts.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

Deliver Specialized Culinary Instruction:

  • Teach specialized culinary courses in your area of expertise, ensuring that students gain a deep understanding of the specific culinary techniques and kitchen operations.

Develop and Refine Instructional Materials:

  • Create, adapt, and continuously improve instructional materials, including lesson plans, recipes, and practical exercises, tailored to the needs of each kitchen section.

Supervise and Mentor Students:

  • Provide hands-on supervision during practical kitchen sessions, guiding students in developing their culinary skills and professional behaviour.

Evaluate and Assess Student Progress:

  • Conduct regular assessments of student performance, providing constructive feedback to support their growth and development.

Maintain Kitchen Standards:

  • Ensure that all kitchen operations adhere to the highest standards of cleanliness, organization, and safety, setting an example for students to follow.

Participate in Curriculum Development:

  • Actively contribute to the review and development of the culinary curriculum, ensuring that it remains relevant, comprehensive, and aligned with industry standards.

Collaborate with Colleagues:

  • Work collaboratively with other Chef Instructors to provide a cohesive and integrated culinary education, sharing best practices and supporting academy-wide initiatives.

Contribute to Academy Events:

  • Participate in and contribute to academy culinary events, demonstrations, and competitions, showcasing both your expertise and the talents of your students.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Minimum of 3 years of professional experience as a chef, with a focus on the specialized kitchen section.
  • Previous experience in teaching, training, or mentoring culinary students.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to inspire and motivate students.
  • Excellent organizational and time management skills, with the ability to manage multiple responsibilities.
