Overview of the Role

The IB Diploma Programme (DP) Coordinator is a vital leadership role responsible for the overall implementation, administration, and development of the IB Diploma Programme within the school. This position requires a highly organized and collaborative educator who is passionate about the IB philosophy, committed to fostering academic excellence, and dedicated to preparing students for success in higher education and beyond.

Key Responsibilities

1. Programme Leadership

  • Oversee the implementation and development of the IB Diploma Programme, ensuring compliance with IB standards and practices.
  • Serve as the primary liaison between the school and the International Baccalaureate Organization (IBO).
  • Lead the preparation for IB authorization and evaluation visits, including the submission of required documentation.
  • Monitor and review curriculum alignment to ensure the delivery of a high-quality programme.

2. Academic Coordination

  • Collaborate with DP teachers to plan and implement the curriculum across subject areas.
  • Support teachers in the integration of Theory of Knowledge (TOK), Extended Essay (EE), and Creativity, Activity, Service (CAS) into the DP curriculum.
  • Provide guidance on assessment practices, including internal and external assessments.
  • Organize and oversee the administration of IB exams, including exam schedules, logistics, and adherence to IB protocols.

3. Student Support

  • Advise and support students in their subject selections, pathways, and overall programme requirements.
  • Provide guidance to students on TOK, EE, and CAS components to ensure successful completion.
  • Work closely with school counselors to support students in university applications and career guidance.

4. Professional Development and Training

  • Organize and facilitate IB training and professional development for DP teachers.
  • Promote a collaborative and reflective teaching culture that aligns with IB philosophies.
  • Stay updated on changes and developments in the IB Diploma Programme and communicate these to staff and leadership.

5. Communication and Collaboration

  • Maintain clear and open communication with students, parents, and staff regarding the DP programme.
  • Conduct regular meetings with DP teachers to review programme progress and address challenges.
  • Provide information sessions and workshops for parents and prospective students about the IB Diploma Programme.

6. Data and Reporting

  • Monitor and analyze student performance data to inform instruction and programme improvements.
  • Prepare reports for school leadership, IBO, and other stakeholders as required.
  • Ensure accurate record-keeping and reporting of all IB-related documentation.

7. Contribution to School Life

  • Promote the IB philosophy and Learner Profile across the school community.
  • Actively participate in school events, activities, and initiatives.
  • Foster a culture of international-mindedness and lifelong learning within the school.

Qualifications and Experience

Essential:

  • Bachelors degree in Education or a related field.
  • Recognized teaching qualification/license.
  • Significant teaching experience, preferably within the IB Diploma Programme.
  • Strong understanding of IB philosophy, standards, and practices.

Preferred:

  • Masters degree in Education or a related field.
  • IB-trained educator with experience in TOK, EE, or CAS coordination.
  • Leadership experience, particularly in managing academic programmes.
  • Proven ability to prepare for and lead IB authorization or evaluation visits.
