The school is a bilingual IB World School situated in Muscat, Oman serving the local Omani community, as well as the bilingual expatriate community. The school is authorised to offer all three International Baccalaureate (IB) programs and the quality of its provision has been recognized with accreditation from the Council for International Schools (CIS).

We are actively seeking an experienced and passionate Secondary SEN Teacher to join the school. This role presents an exciting opportunity to play a pivotal role in shaping the academic and holistic development of young learners within the framework of the IB Curriculum.

Overview of the Role

We are seeking a dedicated and experienced Secondary SEN Teacher to support and inspire students with diverse learning needs. The successful candidate will play a pivotal role in developing and delivering individualized support plans, collaborating with teachers, and fostering an inclusive learning environment. For experienced candidates, there may be an opportunity to take on the Head of Department role, leading the SEN team and driving the strategic vision for inclusive education within the school.

Key Responsibilities

1. Teaching and Learning

  • Plan and deliver individualized and small-group lessons for students with SEN in a secondary school setting.
  • Work collaboratively with subject teachers to differentiate and adapt the curriculum for students with additional needs.
  • Use evidence-based strategies and resources to support diverse learners, including those with specific learning difficulties, autism spectrum disorder, and social, emotional, and behavioral challenges.
  • Monitor and assess students progress, adjusting approaches as necessary to meet their individual goals.

2. SEN Leadership (If Head of Department Role is Appointed)

  • Lead the SEN department in implementing inclusive education strategies.
  • Manage and mentor a team of SEN professionals, ensuring best practices are followed across the school.
  • Develop and oversee policies, procedures, and documentation related to SEN provision.
  • Serve as a key point of contact for external agencies, parents, and the school leadership team on SEN matters.

3. Assessment and Support Planning

  • Conduct detailed assessments to identify students strengths and areas for development.
  • Develop, implement, and review Individualized Education Plans (IEPs) and support plans.
  • Maintain accurate records of student progress and share insights with parents, teachers, and leadership.
  • Provide input on accommodations for exams and assessments to ensure equity for SEN students.

4. Collaboration and Communication

  • Work closely with classroom teachers, parents, and external specialists to provide holistic support for students.
  • Organize and lead meetings with parents to discuss student progress and challenges.
  • Contribute to professional development workshops and training sessions to upskill staff in inclusive education practices.

5. Professional Development

  • Stay updated on best practices and research in SEN education.
  • Participate in professional learning opportunities and share expertise with colleagues.
  • Model inclusive teaching practices within the classroom and across the school.

6. Contribution to School Life

  • Support school initiatives, events, and extracurricular programs that promote inclusion and diversity.
  • Advocate for SEN students, ensuring their voices are heard and needs are met.
  • Contribute to the schools overall vision and mission to create a supportive learning environment for all students.

Qualifications:

  • Minimum Bachelor's degree in Education/SEN/Inclusive Education or a related field.
  • Teaching certification, with a focus on the IB Programme preferred.
  • Minimum of 3 years of teaching experience,
  • Significant experience teaching secondary students with SEN.
  • Strong understanding of SEN strategies, differentiation, and IEP development.
  • Familiarity with assistive technologies and adaptive resources for SEN students.
  • Familiarity with the IB curriculum and philosophy.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
