The school is a bilingual IB World School situated in Muscat, Oman serving the local Omani community, as well as the bilingual expatriate community. The school is authorised to offer all three International Baccalaureate (IB) programs and the quality of its provision has been recognized with accreditation from the Council for International Schools (CIS).

We are actively seeking an experienced and passionate PYP Coordinator to join the school. This role presents an exciting opportunity to play a pivotal role in shaping the academic and holistic development of young learners within the framework of the IB Primary Years Programme (PYP).

Overview of the Role

The PYP Coordinator is responsible for the effective implementation and management of the International Baccalaureate (IB) Primary Years Programme (PYP) within the school. This role involves leading curriculum development, providing pedagogical leadership, and ensuring compliance with IB standards and practices. The PYP Coordinator works collaboratively with staff, students, and the school community to foster a culture of inquiry-based learning, international-mindedness, and a commitment to the IB philosophy.

Key Responsibilities

1. Curriculum Leadership

  • Lead the planning, development, and review of the PYP curriculum in line with IB standards.
  • Ensure that the written, taught, and assessed curriculum aligns with the IB framework.
  • Provide guidance to teachers on integrating transdisciplinary themes and inquiry-based approaches into their teaching.

2. Professional Development

  • Organize and deliver training for teachers to enhance understanding of the PYP framework.
  • Facilitate collaborative planning sessions and team meetings.
  • Promote a culture of continuous professional learning and growth among staff.

3. Compliance and Accreditation

  • Oversee the implementation of IB policies and ensure the school adheres to all PYP requirements.
  • Lead the preparation and submission of documentation for IB authorization and evaluation visits.
  • Stay updated with developments in IB policies and communicate changes to staff and leadership.

4. Collaboration and Communication

  • Serve as a liaison between the school and the IB organization.
  • Foster strong relationships with students, staff, parents, and the wider community to promote the PYP philosophy.
  • Act as the primary contact for IB-related queries within the school.

5. Student Support

  • Encourage student engagement with the PYP Learner Profile and international-mindedness.
  • Support the development of action plans for the PYP Exhibition.
  • Promote student agency and voice throughout the learning process.

6. Leadership and Management

  • Model best practices in teaching and learning.
  • Mentor teachers to enhance their understanding and delivery of the PYP.
  • Collaborate with school leadership to align the PYP with the school's overall vision and mission.

Qualifications:

  • Minimum Bachelor's degree in Education or a related field.
  • Teaching certification, with a focus on the IB Primary Years Programme preferred.
  • Minimum of 4 years of teaching experience in a primary school setting.
  • Familiarity with the IB PYP curriculum and philosophy.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
