About the job English Language Arts Teacher - Middle School

We are seeking an experienced and passionate English Language Arts Teacher (Middle School) to join a vibrant educational community for an August 2025 Start. The ELA Teacher will inspire students to develop their reading, writing, speaking, and analytical skills through engaging lessons, a rich curriculum, and individualized support.

The school, founded in 2016, is a K-12 international school located at the foot of the picturesque and historic YuQuan Mountain, Haidian District in Beijing. The campus is 200,000 square meters of beautiful gardens that integrate natural ecology, cultural heritage, and modern beauty with 140,000 square meters of green space.

The school curriculum is organized into the Elementary School, grades K-5, the Middle School, grades 6-8, and High School, grades 9-12. Under the guidance of the Ministry of Educations nine-year compulsory education program, the curriculum is built on the strength from both Chinese and western education.

For Elementary and Middle School, the school follows a bilingual program using the US Common Core and Next Generation Science Standards along with the Chinese National Curriculum.
For High School, the school follows the US Common Core and College Board AP curriculum and also offers the UK IGCSE and A-Level UK programs.

Qualifications and Requirements
Minimum Qualifications:
- Four-year degree from an accredited university
- Bachelor of Education, PGCE, Teaching license: QTS, national/state teaching license/certificate or equivalent
- Three years of experience teaching in a bilingual school, international school, or government/state school

Key Responsibilities:

  • Plan and deliver engaging English Language Arts lessons to middle school students, covering key areas such as literature, writing, grammar, and vocabulary development.
  • Teach students how to analyze and interpret various texts, including fiction, non-fiction, poetry, and drama.
  • Foster critical thinking and discussion around reading materials and encourage students to express their ideas clearly and confidently.
  • Guide students through the writing process, from brainstorming to drafting, revising, and finalizing written work across various genres (e.g., essays, creative writing, research papers).
  • Incorporate diverse literary perspectives to build cultural awareness and empathy.
  • Assess and monitor student progress through formal and informal assessments, including writing assignments, quizzes, projects, and exams.
  • Provide constructive feedback to students to support their academic growth and improvement in reading comprehension and writing skills.
  • Create a positive and inclusive classroom environment that encourages participation, creativity, and a love of reading and writing.
  • Use differentiated instruction to meet the needs of students with varying abilities and backgrounds.
  • Collaborate with fellow teachers and administrators to integrate ELA learning with interdisciplinary projects and school-wide initiatives.
  • Maintain open communication with parents and guardians regarding student progress and classroom activities.
  • Stay updated on best practices in literacy instruction and participate in ongoing professional development.
  • Contribute to extracurricular activities, such as book clubs, writing competitions, or school publications.
