The school is a bilingual IB World School situated in Muscat, Oman serving the local Omani community, as well as the bilingual expatriate community. The school is authorised to offer all three International Baccalaureate (IB) programs and the quality of its provision has been recognized with accreditation from the Council for International Schools (CIS).
Overview of the Role
We are seeking a dynamic and experienced Individuals & Society / Business Teacher to join our team. The successful candidate will deliver engaging lessons aligned with the IB framework, fostering critical thinking, inquiry-based learning, and global citizenship. For candidates with strong leadership experience, there is an opportunity to take on the Head of Department (HoD) role, which involves leading the department, developing the curriculum, and ensuring high standards of teaching and learning.
Key Responsibilities
1. Teaching and Learning
- Teach Individuals & Society (Humanities) and Business courses at the MYP and DP levels (or equivalent).
- Develop and deliver lessons that align with the IB philosophy, emphasizing inquiry, critical thinking, and interdisciplinary connections.
- Foster a learning environment that encourages students to explore real-world issues, analyze case studies, and apply theory to practice.
- Prepare students for IB assessments and exams, ensuring they meet and exceed academic expectations.
2. Curriculum Development and Assessment
- Design and refine curriculum content for Individuals & Society and Business in line with IB requirements.
- Develop innovative and engaging assessments that measure students understanding and skills.
- Provide timely and constructive feedback to support student progress.
3. Leadership Responsibilities (If HoD Role is Appointed)
- Lead the Individuals & Society / Business department, providing strategic direction and support to teachers.
- Oversee curriculum planning, development, and alignment with IB standards.
- Mentor and support colleagues, fostering professional growth and collaboration.
- Monitor and enhance teaching quality through observation, feedback, and professional development.
- Manage departmental resources and budgets effectively.
4. Collaboration and Communication
- Work collaboratively with colleagues to enhance interdisciplinary learning opportunities.
- Communicate effectively with students, parents, and staff regarding academic progress and department initiatives.
- Represent the department in school-wide meetings and initiatives.
5. Contribution to School Life
- Actively participate in extracurricular activities, such as clubs, competitions, and community service projects.
- Support school events, open days, and parent-teacher conferences.
- Promote the schools mission of fostering global citizenship and lifelong learning.
6. Professional Development
- Engage in ongoing IB training and professional development to stay updated with the latest curriculum changes and teaching strategies.
- Share expertise with colleagues through workshops and collaborative planning.
Qualifications:
- Minimum Bachelor's degree in Humanities or Business related field
- Teaching certification, with a focus on the IB Programme preferred.
- Minimum of 3 years of teaching experience,
- Familiarity with the IB curriculum and philosophy.
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
