The Leader of Learning in Primary (LLP) is a senior figure in the school and as such should be an exemplary, and visible, role model for staff, students and parents. As a leader of learning, the LLP must model the mindset of a lifelong learner, a reflective approach to ensure all conversations focus on learning, as well as knowledge and ability to disseminate information with transparency and clarity. The LLP understands and commits to deepen their understanding of the school-selected pedagogies, while also providing training/support to all team members. This position oversees both Early Years (EY) and Primary Years 1-5.

Aside from being an ambassador of high-quality teaching and learning, ethical practices, and agency, the LLP is part of the schools senior leadership team, represents the school, and strategizes growth and development.

As part of the Senior Leadership team, this position requires starting the school year a week before induction starts, and a week after the last day of classes for teachers and students. Likewise, this position may require participating in school promotional events after school or during the weekends.

This is a full-time position with limited teaching responsibilities.

Position Responsibilities

Administration

  • Act as the leadership figure for EY and primary
  • Demonstrate thorough knowledge of school policies
  • Attend and lead information sessions (these can take place on weekends)
  • Manage cover in EY and primary, and cover when necessary
  • Use relevant SOPs (language, learning support) to:
    • Communicate with parents and sign support agreement
    • Liaise with the administration team on start/finish invoicing of extra support
  • Collaborate in the recruitment of teaching staff for EY and primary
  • Attend and co-chair Senior Leadership meetings when needed
  • Liaise with the Student Learning and Life Coordinator (SLLC) to strategize the implementation of the Resilience, Rights and Respectful Relationships (RRRR) programme
  • In collaboration with the admissions team and SLLC, monitor admissions, trial days and student follow-up
  • Use the schools behaviour policy to devise systems to monitor discipline that include support for learners and logical consequences
  • Monitor high-quality teaching and learning, attend and observe lessons, and provide frequent feedback to teachers
  • In conjunction with the pedagogical director, support the appraisal system in primary
  • In collaboration with the SLLC and the support coordinator, monitor the support programmes for students with learning challenges and those in need of language or learning support
  • Monitor the student language profiles and characterisations produced by the support team
  • Oversee and orchestrate data collection related to language levels, reading levels, and accommodations
  • Collaborate closely with the student-learning and life coordinator, the school counsellor, the support team, and the learning support team to provide students with adequate follow-up and support
  • In collaboration with the Head of Admissions, orchestrate Parent-Teacher conferences according to the calendar
  • In collaboration with other school leaders, produce and update the internal calendar, which includes meeting schedules and events
  • Produce and manage a duty rotation for staff in primary
  • Monitor staff communication to parents
  • Assist the Pedagogical Director and the Director of Operations in the review, preparation, and implementation of the sections budget and other associated budgets
  • Work collaboratively with the Head of Admissions and the Student-Learning and Life Coordinator to make decisions on applications and manage enrollment
  • Collaborate with the Director of Operations in designing a programme to provide students with enrichment and extracurricular opportunities
  • Oversee the risk assessment and risk management procedures of all experiential experiences (field trips)
  • Oversee the creation and review of the primary schools schedule and the allocation of homeroom teachers
  • Oversee and maintain high documentation of school practices: curriculum maps, programme of inquiry, units of inquiry, work samples, NEASC practices slides
  • Manage leave requests to ensure there is limited impact on learning

Pedagogy

  • Collaborate with the Leader of Learning in Secondary and/or the Pedagogical Director in the design of induction and onboarding processes
  • Lead the induction and onboarding process for EY and primary teachers
  • Lead and participate in professional development sessions
  • Supervise, provide guidance and training, and orchestrate high-quality implementation of the Concept-Based Inquiry (CBI), Singapore Math, SIOP, Universal Design for Learning (UDL) [as of 2025-2026], the Resilience, Rights and Respectful Relationships (RRRR), and University of Florida Literacy Institute (UFLI)
  • Collaborate with EY and primary teachers and the pedagogical director in the procurement of relevant pedagogical resources
  • Orchestrate and supervise collaboration and best practice exchanges
  • Ensure that all relevant and required policies and documentation are maintained, up to date, and shared with the school community
  • Supervise teachers in the completion of the recording and reporting of student assessment and learning in ManageBac or other designated information systems
  • Produce a yearly state of the school report addressing all grades in their respective section
  • Develop positive and mutually reinforcing partnerships with other educators and educational institutions
  • Support the Director of Communications in community engagement, data gathering and analysis, and marketing related to the secondary school
  • Present at and attend local events or educational conferences to further conversations about learning and developments in education

  • Cover for colleagues when needed
  • Represent the school as required

Position Profile

Highly Desirable Professional Attributes

  • Bachelors Degree in an education-related field
  • Educational leadership experience
  • Teaching experience in concept-based inquiry
  • Knowledge of Concept-Based Inquiry (CBI)
  • Experience in IB or NEASC-accredited schools
