Job Role:

The Primary Science Coordinator plays a key leadership role in developing and implementing a dynamic, inquiry-based science curriculum that inspires curiosity and fosters a lifelong love of scientific learning among primary-aged students. This role includes teaching science, supporting colleagues in science instruction, leading curriculum development, and promoting best practices in hands-on and cross-curricular science education.

The School:

The school, founded in 2016, is a K-12 international school located at the foot of the picturesque and historic YuQuan Mountain, Haidian District in Beijing. The campus is 200,000 square meters of beautiful gardens that integrate natural ecology, cultural heritage, and modern beauty with 140,000 square meters of green space.

The school curriculum is organized into the Elementary School, grades K-5, the Middle School, grades 6-8, and High School, grades 9-12. Under the guidance of the Ministry of Educations nine-year compulsory education program, the curriculum is built on the strength from both Chinese and western education.

For Elementary and Middle School, the school follows a bilingual program using the US Common Core and Next Generation Science Standards along with the Chinese National Curriculum. For High School, the school follows the US Common Core and College Board AP curriculum and also offers the UK IGCSE and A-Level UK programs.

Key Responsibilities:

Curriculum Leadership

  • Lead the planning, delivery, and evaluation of a high-quality Primary Science curriculum in line with school-wide academic goals and relevant national/international standards (e.g., UK National Curriculum, IB PYP).
  • Design and update schemes of work that are engaging, inclusive, and promote inquiry-based learning.
  • Ensure progression of scientific knowledge, skills, and understanding across year groups.
  • Lead the integration of science across other subject areas through cross-curricular projects and STEM initiatives.

Teaching and Learning

  • Teach primary science classes (number of periods to be confirmed) with creativity and enthusiasm.
  • Model outstanding teaching practices, including differentiation, use of formative assessment, and student-led inquiry.
  • Maintain high standards of classroom management and student engagement.
  • Use technology and hands-on resources effectively to enhance learning.

Professional Development and Staff Support

  • Mentor and support classroom teachers in delivering high-quality science lessons.
  • Organize and lead professional development sessions and collaborative planning meetings.
  • Provide coaching, demonstration lessons, and peer observations to develop staff confidence and subject knowledge.
  • Monitor the quality of science teaching through learning walks, planning reviews, and feedback.

Assessment and Data

  • Develop and maintain assessment tools to monitor student progress in science.
  • Track student attainment and use data to inform planning and intervention strategies.
  • Contribute to internal reporting and communicate science learning outcomes to parents when required.

Resource Management

  • Audit, manage, and maintain science resources, including lab equipment and consumables.
  • Ensure safe practices and compliance with health and safety regulations in all practical work.
  • Propose and manage a departmental budget if required.

Leadership and School Improvement

  • Contribute to whole-school improvement planning as a curriculum leader.
  • Represent the science department in curriculum leadership meetings and contribute to policy development.
  • Organize whole-school science events, including Science Week, fairs, or STEM days.
  • Foster links with external organizations (e.g., universities, museums, STEM networks) to enrich the science programme.

Person Specification:

Qualifications:

  • A relevant degree (e.g., Science or Primary Education with Science specialization).
  • A recognized teaching qualification (e.g., PGCE, B.Ed., QTS, or equivalent).
  • Additional training or certification in science/STEM education is an advantage.

Experience:

  • Minimum 3 - 5 years of successful primary teaching experience.
  • Proven track record of outstanding science teaching.
  • Previous experience in a leadership or coordinator role preferred.
  • Experience in international schools or working with international curricula is desirable.

The salary and benefits package provided is highly competitive depending on thequalifications and experiences of the successful candidate.
