Job Summary:
As an Electrical Quantity Surveyor, you will be responsible for managing the costs, budgets, and contracts related to electrical systems and installations on construction or infrastructure projects. You will work closely with engineers, project managers, and contractors to ensure electrical works are delivered on time, within budget, and in compliance with contractual terms.
Key Responsibilities:
- Cost Estimation and Budgeting:
- Prepare cost estimates for electrical works based on technical specifications and drawings.
- Conduct site visits and surveys to assess project requirements and gather cost data.
- Provide accurate and timely cost forecasts and financial reports to project managers.
- Tendering and Procurement:
- Assist in the preparation of tender documents and the evaluation of bids for electrical works.
- Source suppliers and subcontractors for electrical materials and services.
- Negotiate pricing and terms with suppliers and subcontractors.
- Contract Administration:
- Administer contracts for electrical works, ensuring compliance with terms and conditions.
- Prepare and review subcontractor agreements and variations to contracts.
- Manage claims, disputes, and changes in scope of works.
- Cost Control and Reporting:
- Monitor the financial performance of the electrical portion of projects.
- Track and control expenditures, identifying potential cost overruns.
- Prepare regular financial reports for senior management, highlighting risks and opportunities for cost savings.
- Variation and Change Management:
- Evaluate and process variations or changes to the scope of work.
- Negotiate variations with subcontractors and clients.
- Maintain detailed records of changes, ensuring proper documentation for future claims or disputes.
- Project Support and Coordination:
- Coordinate with electrical engineers and contractors to ensure timely delivery of electrical works.
- Ensure that the electrical work complies with safety standards, regulations, and quality requirements.
- Attend site meetings to monitor progress and address financial and contractual issues.
- Risk Management:
- Identify and mitigate risks related to cost, schedule, and quality for electrical works.
- Advise on strategies to optimize costs and improve the efficiency of electrical installations.
- Final Account and Settlement:
- Prepare final accounts for electrical works, ensuring all costs are accurately captured and documented.
- Resolve any disputes related to costs or contract terms with clients or subcontractors.
- Key Skills:
- Strong numerical and analytical skills.
- Excellent communication and negotiation abilities.
- Attention to detail and ability to work under pressure.
- Good understanding of construction contracts, particularly related to electrical systems.
- Ability to manage multiple projects and prioritize tasks effectively.
- Minimum 5 years of experience in a quantity surveying role, with a focus on electrical projects or MEP (Mechanical, Electrical, and Plumbing) works.
- Experience in cost estimation, budgeting, and tendering processes for electrical works.
