The Maintenance Instructor is responsible for delivering high-quality technical training to maintenance personnel, with a primary focus on safety. This role ensures that maintenance personnel are well-versed in the company policies and procedures and equipped with the necessary skills and knowledge to maintain and repair aircraft and aviation equipment safely and in compliance with industry and regulatory standards. The instructor will develop, deliver, and assess training programs that foster efficient, compliant, and high-quality maintenance operations across the organization.

KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES: 

Training Development

  • Designs and updates comprehensive training programs, presentations, course materials, and assessments to cover essential skills and align with industry standards and company policies.
  • Ensures all materials are prepared to facilitate effective learning and skill development for maintenance technicians.
  • Provide expert guidance in identifying the root causes of issues arising from SMS and quality assurance events and ensure these are addressed through tailored remedial training programs.
  • Collaborate with safety, quality, and operational teams to define specific training objectives aimed at rectifying deficiencies, improving compliance, and enhancing operational performance.

Training Delivery

  • Conducts engaging classroom and practical training sessions on aircraft systems, maintenance techniques, regulatory requirements, safety protocols, and other relevant topics.
  • Uses interactive methods to enhance trainee understanding and retention of technical information.

Performance Assessment

  • Assesses and identifies training needs by evaluating each technician's knowledge base and skill level, tailoring training objectives to bridge gaps and support growth in areas requiring improvement.
  • Provides constructive, targeted feedback to guide technicians in acquiring the expertise needed for proficiency and career advancement, fostering a culture of continuous learning and skill enhancement.
  • Works with technicians to create individual development plans that outline clear steps for skill-building, setting achievable milestones to reach industry standards and support long-term career goals.

Career Plan Development

  • Collaborate with maintenance management to identify career growth opportunities for personnel based on performance, skills, and career aspirations.
  • Provide mentorship and guidance to help individuals advance their knowledge and qualifications.
  • Assist in creating tailored development plans that align with the organization's needs.
  • Promote a culture of continuous learning and professional growth within the maintenance department.

Continuous improvement

  • Collects and analyses feedback from training participants to assess the effectiveness of training materials, delivery methods, and overall impact.
  • Uses feedback to refine training content, methodologies, and instructional approaches to ensure continuous improvement and alignment with the evolving needs of the technicians and industry standards.

Regulatory and Other

Safeguard the company by ensuring adherence to all relevant policies, regulatory requirements, and industry standards within the instructor's specific area and across the organization. This proactive approach mitigates the risk of high-risk audit findings, regulatory violations, and potential financial or reputational damage.

Functions and Responsibilities in relation to SMS are:

  • Comply with the Policies, Objectives and Requirements of the Operational Safety Management System.
  • Actively participate in the Operational Safety Reporting System.
  • Inform the Operational Safety and Risk Management of the dangers, accidents, incidents, unsafe acts, violations, deviations and unsafe conditions that are generated in the operation and maintenance work.
  • Address and establish action plans to close non-conformities generated during the different audits scheduled by internal auditors.
  • Receive, read and understand the information provided by Operational Safety and act in accordance with the given guidelines.
  • Attend and approve the Operational Safety Instruction.
  • Receive and answer the Operational Safety surveys designed by the Operational Safety and Risk Management.

QUALIFICATIONS, EXPERIENCE, & SKILLS: 

  • Diploma or degree in Aviation Maintenance, Aeronautical Engineering, or a related field.
  • Minimum of 5 years of hands-on experience as an aviation maintenance technician, with 2+ years in an instructional or training role.
  • Relevant aviation maintenance licenses. Instructor certifications are an asset.
  • In-depth knowledge of aircraft systems, maintenance practices, tools, equipment, and safety regulations.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to convey complex technical concepts in an understandable manner.
  • Proficiency with training software and tools, including Learning Management Systems (LMS) and virtual training platforms.
