Lead Transmission Line Engineer (Principal Level)
Overview
Our client is a leading renewable energy developer and operator, seeking an experienced Transmission Line Principal Engineer for a key 12-month contract role. This position is central to the Engineering & Construction (E&C) Group, responsible for managing the complete design lifecycle of transmission generation tie lines for major renewable projects (Wind, Solar, Battery Storage) and stand-alone transmission lines. You will lead external engineering consultants, guiding projects from conceptual development through construction and commissioning. This is an on-site opportunity to contribute to critical infrastructure that powers America's clean energy future.
Key Responsibilities
- Manage the end-to-end design process for assigned transmission line projects, from early-stage conception (FERC 1000 proposals, greenfield projects) through execution (construction and commissioning).
- Serve as the primary technical lead and owner for transmission line design, coordinating with other disciplines (substation, protection & control, etc.).
- Direct and oversee external engineering consulting firms; develop scopes of work, evaluate bids, and award contracts per client procurement processes.
- Collaborate with Early Stage Project Managers and Development teams to define project requirements, scope, and feasibility.
- Ensure designs comply with all applicable codes, standards, reliability criteria, and client specifications.
- Provide technical guidance and mentorship on complex transmission line engineering issues.
- Review and approve design deliverables, drawings, and calculations from consultants.
- Support project permitting activities and interface with internal and external stakeholders.
Requirements
- Education: Bachelor of Science in Civil, Structural, or Electrical Engineering (or related field).
- Experience: Minimum 15+ years of progressive experience in the design and engineering of high-voltage (69kV+) overhead transmission lines.
- Expertise: Deep knowledge of transmission line design codes (NESC, ASCE) and industry standards, including structure spotting, foundation design, conductor selection, and plan & profile development.
- Project Leadership: Proven experience managing the design phase of large-scale transmission projects, preferably within the renewable energy sector (wind, solar, BESS).
- Consultant Management: Demonstrated ability to successfully manage and direct external engineering design consultants.
- Software: Proficiency with PLS-CADD is highly desirable. Familiarity with other transmission design software (PLS-POLE, TOWER) is a plus.
- Licensure: Professional Engineer (PE) license is strongly preferred.
- Location: Must be able to work on-site in Juno Beach, FL. No remote work available.
