๐ŸŒŸ Overview of the Role

Join a Fortune 200 clean energy leader as a Lead Substation Engineer, managing substation projects from conception through construction and commissioning. You'll provide technical oversight of external engineers, ensure compliance with interconnection agreements, and coordinate with transmission owners and ISOs on utility-scale solar, BESS, and wind projects.

๐Ÿ’ผ Key Responsibilities

  • Manage all assigned substation projects from Early Stage conception through Execution and commissioning
  • Provide training, due diligence, and technical oversight of external engineers of record (EOR)
  • Ensure compliance with generation interconnection agreements, IEEE, NESC, ASCE, and applicable industry codes
  • Secure engineering consulting resources by developing SOWs, securing bids, and awarding work through Integrated Supply Chain
  • Coordinate with Transmission Services on system impact studies, facility studies, and reactive/harmonic studies
  • Communicate with transmission owners/operators/ISOs to ensure project deliverables meet requirements
  • Manage long lead major material orders to minimize schedule delays and budget overruns
  • Lead multi-disciplinary engineering teams and ensure projects meet safety, cost, and schedule objectives
  • Support project commissioning activities and collaborate with OEMs on design integration

โœ… Required Skills & Qualifications

Required:

  • Bachelor of Science in Engineering
  • 15+ years of experience planning, designing, and executing large-scale energy projects
  • Extensive experience with utility-scale solar, BESS, wind, or hydrogen systems
  • Deep knowledge of generation interconnection agreements and transmission owner requirements
  • Expertise in IEEE, NESC, ASCE, and industry codes and standards
  • Experience managing external engineers of record and engineering consultants
  • Valid driver's license with clean driving record

Preferred:

  • Professional Engineering (PE) certification - strongly preferred
  • Experience with ETAP, EDISON, or similar computational tools
  • Background in protection & controls, power systems analysis
  • Experience with ISO compliance and regulatory filings
