Overview

Our client is a leading renewable energy organization seeking an experienced Substation Commissioning Manager to support utility-scale wind, solar, and battery storage projects. Acting as the Owners representative, this role is responsible for the safe and high-quality execution of commissioning, startup, and operational turnover activities.

This position is ideal for a hands-on leader with strong technical depth, EPC coordination experience, and a proven track record delivering reliable renewable power projects.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead and oversee commissioning activities for assigned renewable energy projects

  • Coordinate EPC contractors, OEM startup teams, third-party vendors, and operations personnel on site

  • Ensure all work adheres to company safety policies and quality standards

  • Support plant reliability at operational turnover, minimizing early-life performance issues

  • Manage compliance with project contractual requirements including PPA and interconnection deliverables

  • Interface with Transmission Operators and ISOs to support successful project energization

  • Oversee onsite commissioning personnel and direct report team members

  • Perform drawing reviews, quality inspections, and progress reporting

  • Partner with safety, engineering, and quality teams to resolve technical issues

  • Manage schedules, planning activities, and multi-project priorities

Required Qualifications

  • Minimum 5 years of onsite commissioning/startup experience in renewable power generation

  • Minimum 3 years of EPC experience supporting renewable construction and commissioning

  • Strong knowledge of electrical construction and commissioning methods (NEC and NFPA)

  • Hands-on experience with:

    • SCADA integration and troubleshooting

    • Protection and Controls implementation

    • E&I controls and instrumentation startup

    • Drawing review and quality control

  • Proven ability to manage contractors, suppliers, and direct reports

  • Strong computer skills including Outlook, Excel, Word, PowerPoint, and document control systems

  • Demonstrated ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously
