Assistant Vice President, Employee Benefits

We are currently seeking an Assistant Vice President (AVP) of Benefits to lead and manage all aspects of employee benefits strategy and administration. This is a high-impact leadership role focused on delivering competitive, cost-effective, and compliant benefits programs that support organizational goals and enhance the employee experience.


Our client is a leading, multi-state healthcare provider operating nearly 200 sites of careincluding hospitals and multispecialty physician practices. With 23,000 employees and over 1,700 employed physicians, our mission is to deliver patient-centered care supported by a strong, community-focused workforce.


What You'll Do:

  • Lead the strategic design and execution of all core benefit programs including health, dental, vision, life, disability, leave management, retirement, and wellness.

  • Manage vendor relationships, contract negotiations, and performance oversight (TPAs, brokers, carriers, consultants).

  • Analyze data and trends to assess program effectiveness, support cost management, and identify opportunities for improvement.

  • Ensure compliance with all applicable benefit-related laws and regulations (ACA, ERISA, HIPAA, etc.).

  • Oversee benefits communications and educational initiatives to drive employee understanding and engagement.

  • Support integration activities during M&A events and oversee updates to internal and external benefits platforms.

  • Collaborate cross-functionally with internal teams including HR, Finance, and Legal to ensure alignment with overall talent strategy.

What We're Looking For:

  • Bachelor's degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, Accounting, or related field (required).

  • 10+ years of progressive HR experience, with deep expertise in benefits administration and design.

  • Strong understanding of compliance issues including ACA, Sarbanes-Oxley, and benefits due diligence during mergers/acquisitions.

  • Experience managing RFPs and negotiating with benefits vendors.

  • Familiarity with Lawson HRIS preferred.

  • Relevant certifications (e.g., CEBS, CBP) are a plus.
