Join a Fortune 200 utility leader's nuclear fleet engineering team as a Principal Engineer specializing in heat exchanger program management. This highly specialized remote role offers exceptional flexibility with part-time hours (20-40 weekly) while providing critical technical expertise for nuclear plant heat exchanger reliability, regulatory compliance, and long-term asset management. You'll serve as the technical authority on GL 89-13 heat exchangers, perform margin calculations, and guide strategic replacement planning across multiple nuclear facilities.
๐ผ Key Responsibilities
- Heat Exchanger Program Management: Lead comprehensive heat exchanger program engineering including inspection result reviews, reliability recommendations, and coordination with NDE personnel
- Technical Analysis: Perform heat exchanger margin calculations and thermal performance assessments to maintain design criteria and licensing basis
- Regulatory Compliance: Provide technical oversight for Generic Letter 89-13 heat exchangers, ensuring all regulatory requirements are met
- Maintenance Support: Support maintenance evolutions and provide engineering recommendations for deficient conditions
- Program Health Monitoring: Monitor program health metrics and perform engineering assessments to ensure equipment reliability
- Procedure Development: Update engineering procedures and develop tube plugging criteria for heat exchanger maintenance
- Strategic Planning: Develop long and intermediate term plans for timely heat exchanger replacement across the nuclear fleet
- Performance Monitoring: Conduct routine performance monitoring and trending analysis
- Process Maintenance: Maintain program processes confirming maintenance practices, operating procedures, and training are appropriate for service conditions
โ Required Skills & Qualifications
Required:
- Bachelor of Science in Engineering (PE may substitute for degree)
- 7+ years of engineering or related experience
- Strong understanding of nuclear industry standards and regulations
- Ability to work independently with minimal supervision
- Experience applying engineering principles to complex technical problems
- Excellent technical writing and communication skills
Preferred:
- Professional Engineering (PE) license
- 2+ years nuclear power plant experience
- Experience with Eddy current testing of heat exchangers
- Familiarity with Generic Letter 89-13 requirements
- Experience with Thermal Performance reviews
- Proficiency with Proto-HX software
- 12+ years total engineering experience
