Lead Plant Systems & Regulatory SCADA Engineer

Overview

Our client is a leading renewable energy and power generation company, seeking an experienced Plant Systems & Regulatory SCADA Engineer to provide technical leadership and ensure compliance for Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) plant controllers. This is a critical contract role requiring deep expertise in North American bulk electric system operations and ISO market structures.

The successful candidate will guide a control system engineering team, ensuring regulatory compliance and optimizing participation in ancillary services markets across multiple ISO territories. This position offers the opportunity to work on cutting-edge energy storage technology at the forefront of the clean energy transition.

Key Responsibilities

• Provide technical guidance on regulatory compliance for BESS plant controllers operating in ISO markets including CAISO, ERCOT, MISO, PJM, SPP, and NYISO
• Develop and maintain technical standards for plant control systems to meet NERC, FERC, and regional ISO requirements
• Lead the design and implementation of SCADA systems for utility-scale battery storage projects
• Collaborate with cross-functional teams including grid operations, market operations, and project development
• Conduct technical reviews of control system designs and implementation plans
• Develop testing protocols and validation procedures for plant controller compliance
• Provide mentorship and technical direction to junior engineers and team members
• Stay current with evolving market rules and regulatory changes across ISO territories
• Support commissioning activities and provide technical troubleshooting expertise

Requirements

• 10+ years of progressive engineering experience in power systems or plant controls
• Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, or related field (Master's preferred)
• Expert knowledge of North American bulk electric system operations and ISO market structures
• Deep understanding of NERC, FERC, and regional ISO compliance requirements
• Hands-on experience with BESS plant controllers, SCADA systems, and industrial control systems
• Proven experience with at least three of the following ISOs: CAISO, ERCOT, MISO, PJM, SPP, NYISO
• Strong background in control system design, implementation, and testing
• Experience with communication protocols (DNP3, Modbus, IEC 61850)
• Excellent technical leadership and mentorship capabilities
• Valid driver's license with clean driving record (required for position duties)
• Ability to work on-site in Juno Beach, FL for the duration of the contract
