Overview
We are seeking a seasoned Senior Commissioning Project Manager to lead and oversee the critical commissioning phase of utility-scale renewable energy projects. This is a high-impact contract role for a professional with deep expertise in bringing solar, battery storage (BESS), and other renewable assets from construction completion to commercial operation. You will act as the linchpin between engineering, construction, and operations teams, ensuring projects are commissioned safely, on schedule, and to the highest quality standards.
Key Responsibilities
- Manage the end-to-end commissioning process for multiple concurrent renewable energy projects (Solar PV, BESS).
- Develop and execute detailed commissioning plans, schedules, and procedures in compliance with NEC, NFPA, and company standards.
- Lead on-site and remote commissioning activities, providing technical direction and oversight to contractors and vendors.
- Troubleshoot complex issues related to SCADA integration, protection & controls (P&C), inverters, and Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS).
- Oversee Electrical & Instrumentation (E&I) controls startup, testing, and system integration.
- Conduct rigorous drawing reviews and quality control inspections throughout the commissioning phase.
- Provide daily/weekly progress reporting to stakeholders, managing risks, issues, and change effectively.
- Ensure all commissioning activities adhere to the highest standards of safety and quality.
Required Qualifications & Experience
- 11-15 years of overall project management experience, with a minimum of 5 years specifically in on-site support for renewable power generation project construction, startup, and commissioning.
- 3+ years of experience working directly for an EPC (Engineering, Procurement, and Construction) contractor on renewable energy projects.
- Proven expertise in electrical construction/commissioning means & methods, with strong knowledge of NEC/NFPA codes.
- Hands-on technical skills in SCADA integration, P&C systems, inverter communications, and BESS troubleshooting.
- Demonstrated ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously in a fast-paced environment.
- Strong computer proficiency with Outlook, MS Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint), PDF editors, and document control systems.
- Excellent communication skills with the ability to interface effectively with both technical engineering teams and field construction personnel.
- Self-starter with a relentless drive for quality, execution excellence, and safety.
