Join a Fortune 200 clean energy leader as a Principal Energy Storage Engineer driving the design and execution of utility-scale battery energy storage systems (BESS). This high-impact role puts you at the forefront of the clean energy transition, working on large-scale energy storage projects that integrate with solar PV systems. You'll provide engineering oversight across cross-functional teams, from project inception through commissioning, ensuring best-in-class delivery of cutting-edge energy storage solutions that are transforming the power grid.

๐Ÿ’ผ Key Responsibilities

  • BESS Design Leadership: Support design phase and engineer major components for large-scale energy storage projects
  • Quality Assurance: Recognize inconsistencies in engineering drawings, take corrective action, and drive better design quality and efficiency
  • Technical Problem-Solving: Identify and resolve errors in engineering studies and propose future solutions
  • Contract Development: Prepare technical scopes of work for contracts with suppliers and contractors
  • Project Execution: Support projects from inception to completion, working closely with project managers
  • Team Leadership: Influence project teams on engineering tasks and technical decisions
  • Risk Management: Manage project milestones and proactively recognize risks
  • Supplier Integration: Collaborate with suppliers to integrate major equipment and systems
  • Systems Integration: Work with diverse teams to solve problems, improve opportunities, and integrate systems and controls
  • Equipment Specifications: Understand specifications for major equipment purchasing, ensure clear communication, and propose solutions
  • Permitting Support: Understand permitting requirements, propose solutions to legal challenges, and recommend site design improvements
  • Site Visits: Travel 25% of the time for project-specific duties and on-site coordination

โœ… Required Skills & Qualifications

Required:

  • Bachelor of Science in Engineering (Electrical, Mechanical, or related)
  • Strong project management skills combined with technical expertise
  • Pertinent experience in the energy storage field
  • Ability to handle specialized technical tasks independently
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Willingness to travel 25% for project site visits

Preferred:

  • 3+ years experience in Solar/PV Engineering and/or Construction
  • Expertise in one or more areas: Power electronics, Battery storage system design, Substation design, Generation tie design
  • Familiarity with energy storage technologies including battery chemistries, power conversion units, and DC/DC converters
  • Knowledge of lithium-ion battery storage safety standards (UL1973, UL9540, UL9540A, NFPA 855, NFPA 70E, NEC)
  • Familiarity with IEC 61215, 61646, 61730 standards
  • Professional Engineering (PE) license
