Employment Type: Contract (12 Months)
Location: Hillsboro, TX
Work Model: On-site

About the Role

Our client is seeking an experienced Material Manager to lead the planning, coordination, tracking, and control of materials across multiple projects and field locations throughout Texas. This role serves as the central coordination point between early-stage project management, engineering, contractors, purchasing, accounting, business management, and material vendors. You will ensure materials are properly forecasted, procured, received, tracked, transferred, and reconciled throughout the project lifecycle.

This position is critical for maintaining material visibility, minimizing delays, controlling costs, and supporting efficient execution of construction and operations activities. The role requires frequent field presence, strong organizational skills, and the ability to work cross-functionally with internal and external stakeholders.

Key Responsibilities

  • Develop and maintain material tracking processes for multiple active and early-stage projects, coordinating requirements with project managers, engineers, and construction teams to support project schedules and milestones.
  • Track materials from requisition and purchase through delivery, receipt, storage, transfer, installation, and final reconciliation, ensuring accurate documentation and traceability across jobs, cost centers, and business units.
  • Conduct field visits to verify material deliveries, inspect storage conditions, resolve discrepancies, and support site teams in identifying shortages, overages, damages, and missing materials.
  • Act as the primary liaison between project management, engineering, contractors, purchasing, accounting, business management, and vendors to resolve specification changes, substitutions, and material-related technical issues.
  • Interface with material vendors and suppliers regarding order status, shipment schedules, delivery issues, and returns, while supporting procurement teams with expediting and discrepancy resolution.
  • Maintain organized and accurate material records in tracking systems, spreadsheets, or enterprise platforms, and prepare regular reports on material status, shortages, transfers, surplus, and inventory balances.
  • Investigate and resolve material discrepancies, damaged shipments, missing items, invoicing mismatches, and transfer issues, while identifying opportunities to improve material tracking and coordination processes.

Required Qualifications

  • Minimum 7 years of experience in material management, inventory control, logistics, construction support, or project operations.
  • Proven experience supporting multiple projects and coordinating material movement across field locations.
  • Strong understanding of procurement, receiving, inventory control, and material reconciliation processes.
  • Experience working with project teams, contractors, vendors, and cross-functional business groups.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, especially Excel, and experience with inventory systems or project management platforms.
  • Strong organizational, analytical, and problem-solving skills with the ability to work independently and manage competing priorities across multiple locations.
  • Valid current driver's license with no alcohol/drug-related driving offenses within the previous five years and license not currently suspended or restricted.

Preferred Skills

  • Experience in utility, energy, construction, infrastructure, or industrial project environments.
  • Familiarity with material tracking systems, warehouse practices, and field logistics.
  • Experience supporting project cost tracking and coordination with accounting functions.
  • Knowledge of purchase orders, receiving documentation, invoice reconciliation, and job cost allocation.
  • Experience working in field-based environments with multiple contractors and vendors.
