Overview
We are seeking a highly skilled Data Scientist and Data Engineer to support critical financial statement compilation, reconciliation, and reporting efforts. This role combines advanced technical capabilities in Python development and data engineering with knowledge of federal financial systems to ensure accuracy, compliance, and efficiency in DoD financial operations.
The ideal candidate will serve as a technical bridge between financial systems and stakeholders, developing automated solutions that enhance the integrity and timeliness of federal financial reporting.
Key Responsibilities
- Design, develop, and maintain robust Python scripts to automate processes, reconciliations and eliminations
- Build and optimize data pipelines to streamline workflows and reduce manual intervention
- Implement automated solutions to improve efficiency and accuracy
- Leverage ADVANA, Databricks, and Qlik platforms to extract, transform, and analyze large-scale financial datasets
- Develop sophisticated queries and transformations to support financial reporting requirements
- Create reproducible analytical frameworks for recurring financial reconciliation processes
- Interface with DDRS (Defense Departmental Reporting System), EBS (Enterprise Business System), and other DoD financial systems to ensure data accuracy, completeness, and regulatory compliance
- Perform comprehensive data validation and quality checks across multiple financial systems Identify and resolve system integration issues and data discrepancies
- Partner closely with financial management, audit, and IT stakeholders to identify challenges and technical requirements
- Investigate and troubleshoot complex data discrepancies with both technical and business acumen
Required Qualifications
- Active Secret Clearance (required)
- 5+ years of hands-on Python programming experience with demonstrated applications in financial reconciliation, reporting, and data analysis
- 5+ years of proven experience with ADVANA platform, including user access administration and advanced reporting capabilities
- Proficiency with Databricks for large-scale data processing and analytics
- Working experience with Qlik (Cliq) for business intelligence and data visualization
- Understanding of financial reconciliation principles and federal financial reporting requirements
- Ability to work independently in a fast-paced environment with competing priorities
- Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills with attention to detail
- Strong documentation practices and code management discipline
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience supporting DoD FIAR (Financial Improvement and Audit Readiness) initiatives.
- Knowledge of federal accounting standards, policies, and audit processes.
- Experience with DevOps practices and CI/CD pipeline development
- Familiarity with cloud infrastructure platforms (AWS, Azure) in DoD environments
- Knowledge of SQL, R, or other data analysis programming languages
- Understanding of federal financial regulations and DoD Financial Management Regulation (FMR) Experience with Agile/Scrum development methodologies
- Strong written and verbal communication skills with ability to present complex technical concepts to diverse audiences including financial analysts, auditors, and senior leadership
