About the Company

ANT Recruitment is supporting an established UK transport and engineering business. The employer’s identity will be discussed confidentially during the recruitment process.

The Role

Provide strong vehicle electrical diagnostic and repair skills while developing the ability to support the tachograph bay. The client is looking for an auto-electrical capability alongside a willingness to learn the tachograph work needed to support the existing technician.

Work includes vehicle wiring, electrical equipment and tachograph systems. The work also includes electrical installations and associated vehicle maintenance. The specific tachograph systems, test equipment and vehicle mix will be discussed during recruitment.

Key Responsibilities

  • Investigate vehicle electrical faults and carry out repairs using sound wiring and diagnostic practices.
  • Install or repair electrical equipment, including relevant lighting and camera systems from the existing brief.
  • Work with the established tachograph technician and undertake the agreed training pathway.
  • Provide tachograph-bay support and eventual holiday cover only within the competence and approvals achieved.
  • Carry out associated vehicle inspection and maintenance tasks within your skills.
  • Keep electrical and tachograph work records accurate and protect equipment, cards and data.
  • Escalate faults or calibration tasks that require an authorised technician or further technical support.
  • Work collaboratively with mechanics to resolve faults that need specialist electrical knowledge.

Skills and Experience Required

  • Strong practical vehicle auto-electrical fault-finding and wiring skills.
  • A relevant vehicle/electrical qualification; the existing brief specifies NVQ Level 3 HGV Technician or equivalent.
  • Ability to demonstrate recent diagnosis and repair work rather than general mechanical experience alone.
  • Willingness to train for tachograph-bay duties and complete any required competence and approval process.
  • Full driving licence and clear technical communication and record keeping.

Desirable Experience

  • Existing tachograph training or nominated-technician experience.
  • Experience with commercial vehicles and associated electronic or electrical equipment.
  • Mechanical servicing experience complementing the electrical specialism.

Candidate Profile

An electrically strong technician willing to develop tachograph skills may be suitable. Already being a fully authorised tachograph technician is not presented as the only entry route. You should understand the distinction between supervised training, competence and permission to carry out regulated work independently.

Package and Working Arrangements

  • A three-month probation and review were discussed. A review does not guarantee a pay increase.
  • The indicative starting-pay discussion is not a confirmed pay scale or a guaranteed maximum. ANT will clarify the agreed rate before an offer is accepted.
  • Holiday, pension, overtime rates and any other benefits will be confirmed for this hourly-paid role. The salaried management package should not be assumed to apply.
  • The wider workshops currently operate around an 08:00-18:00 window. This is not confirmation of a 50-hour paid contract. Shift changes were being considered; exact working days, breaks and weekend cover need confirmation.
  • No company car was offered. Sponsorship and accommodation have not been confirmed.
