About the Company

ANT Recruitment is supporting an established UK transport and engineering business. The employer’s identity will be discussed confidentially during the recruitment process.

The Role

Maintain a mixed plant fleet with a practical focus on forklifts, hydraulic jacks and generators. The work is broader than forklift servicing alone and includes older equipment that requires systematic mechanical, hydraulic and electrical fault-finding.

The equipment mix includes forklifts, hydraulic jacks and generators. The specific makes, models and service arrangements will be discussed during recruitment. This role is separate from maintaining specialist trailers and SPMT equipment.

Key Responsibilities

  • Carry out planned servicing, inspections and repairs across the mixed plant fleet.
  • Diagnose mechanical, hydraulic and electrical faults using safe, methodical checks.
  • Investigate problems on hydraulic jacks and related systems, controlling stored energy and working within your competence.
  • Maintain forklifts and generators using the relevant service information and approved procedures.
  • Record defects, work completed and items requiring further repair or specialist support.
  • Support statutory inspection preparation where required; do not treat routine maintenance as authority to certify every examination.
  • Work with the workshop manager and other technicians to prioritise equipment availability.
  • Keep the work area organised and report equipment that should remain out of service.

Skills and Experience Required

  • Relevant plant-maintenance or engineering qualification, normally NVQ Level 3 or equivalent, supported by practical experience.
  • Experience diagnosing and repairing a range of plant rather than a single narrow task.
  • Practical hydraulic fault-finding and confidence with relevant electrical systems.
  • Ability to explain safe maintenance, isolation and defect-reporting decisions.
  • Full, clean and valid UK driving licence, as required in the existing role brief.
  • Reliable teamwork, clear records and willingness to learn unfamiliar equipment.

Desirable Experience

  • Direct experience with forklifts, hydraulic jacks and generators.
  • Experience maintaining older plant and using technical information to resolve unfamiliar faults.
  • Knowledge of the maintenance responsibilities associated with lifting and work equipment.

Candidate Profile

You should enjoy varied workshop work and be able to describe your personal involvement in finding and fixing faults. A forklift-only background may be transferable, but ANT will explore whether you can also work on hydraulic jacks and generators. Be clear about training or manufacturer support you would need.

Package and Working Arrangements

  • A three-month probation and review were discussed. A review does not guarantee a pay increase.
  • The indicative starting-pay discussion is not a confirmed pay scale or a guaranteed maximum. ANT will clarify the agreed rate before an offer is accepted.
  • Holiday, pension, overtime rates and any other benefits will be confirmed for this hourly-paid role. The salaried management package should not be assumed to apply.
  • The wider workshops currently operate around an 08:00-18:00 window. This is not confirmation of a 50-hour paid contract. Shift changes were being considered; exact working days, breaks and weekend cover need confirmation.
  • No company car was offered. Sponsorship and accommodation have not been confirmed.
