JOB SUMMARY

As a psychiatry assistant consultant, you will be responsible for supervision of a Consultant Psychiatrist to provide patient care and participate in clinical services within a hospital or community setting. This role involves direct patient care, consulting with other departments, participating in multidisciplinary teams, and on-call duties, with the goal of gaining experience and developing leadership skills before potentially becoming a fully accredited Consultant Psychiatrist.

MAIN DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

    • To provide high standard patient care in accordance with the NGHA mission, vision and values under the supervision of a consultant/Associate Consultant, Division of Psychiatry
    • To provide inpatient care for the psychiatry patients admitted to the hospital under the name of the Consultant/Associate Consultant with whom he/she works.
    • To participate in the delivery of health care to psychiatry patients in the ambulatory care setting under the supervision of a consultant. The Division Head of Psychiatry determines the size and frequency of this participation.
    • To provide under the direct supervision of the consultant psychiatrist/associate consultant, a consultation service to other divisions within the Department of Medicine and other departments within the hospital during the regular working and the on call hours.
    • To perform diagnostic and/or therapeutic interventions and procedures for which he/she has been granted specific privileges based on his/her training, qualification, experience according to the specific privileging condition approved by the Department and the organization.
    • To participate in on call coverage of the psychiatry service in accordance with the rules and regulations of the Division of Psychiatry, the Department of Medicine and the organization.
    • To actively participate in the Quality improvement program of the Division of Psychiatry and the Department of Medicine.
    • To provide close supervision of the clinical performance of staff physicians and physicians in training (interns, residents, and fellows) in the Division of Psychiatry.
    • To participate in scientific research, contribute into the Division of Psychiatry and Department of Medicine educational activities and postgraduate training programs, and to serve in committees as directed by the Division Head of Psychiatry, Department Chairman or the Executive Management of the organization.
    • To adhere to all rules and regulations of the division, department and organization. Assistant Consultants are expected to familiarize themselves and comply with all the APPs and IPPs.
    • To perform other relevant duties and charges as directed by the Division Head of Psychiatry or the Chairman of the Department of medicine.
    • To comply with all the professional and ethical standards and express adherence to the Medical Staff By Laws of the organization.
    • To show the expected respect, at all times, to patients, their families, colleagues, subordinates and all other members of the healthcare team.
    • To be culturally competent and religious sensitive in his/her clinical duties.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS

Education

  • Graduate from a medical school of good standing.
  • Completion of required period of training in psychiatry
  • (Arab, Jordanian, Egyptian) Board certification in the relevant medical psychiatry is typically required or equivalent.
  • Membership and/or Fellowship or their equivalent and fulfilling the criteria for the consultant as required
  • A certificate recognized by the Saudi commission is a must.
  • Dataflow is a must.

Professional Experience

  • Min. 5 years Post Board/Fellowship in psychiatry.
  • A registered member of the Saudi Board Council

Language

  • Proficiency in English; additional proficiency in Arabic may be beneficial.
