JOB SUMMARY

The Senior Registrar General Surgery will be responsible for providing high-quality surgical care under appropriate consultant supervision. The role involves assessing, diagnosing, and managing a wide range of surgical conditions, assisting in and performing surgical procedures within the scope of clinical privileges, and providing pre-operative and post-operative care. The Senior Registrar will also contribute to the supervision of junior medical staff, teaching, quality improvement, and departmental activities.

MAIN DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Provides high-quality surgical care to patients in accordance with established clinical standards and best practices.
  • Conducts patient assessments, clinical examinations, diagnoses, and develops appropriate treatment plans under consultant supervision where required.
  • Manages patients with a broad range of elective and emergency general surgical conditions.
  • Assists in and performs general surgical procedures within the scope of training, experience, and clinical privileges.
  • Provides appropriate pre-operative, operative, and post-operative care to surgical patients.
  • Participates in the management of surgical emergencies and on-call duties as required.
  • Assists Consultants and Senior Consultants during complex surgical procedures and clinical cases.
  • Provides follow-up care and monitors patients' progress, identifying and escalating complications when necessary.
  • Provides consultations to other departments under appropriate supervision.
  • Supervises and supports junior residents and medical staff as appropriate.
  • Participates in the teaching and training of residents, interns, medical students, and other healthcare professionals.
  • Participates in clinical audits, quality improvement initiatives, research activities, and evidence-based practice.
  • Maintains accurate and comprehensive medical records in accordance with hospital policies and regulatory requirements.
  • Communicates effectively with patients, families, and multidisciplinary healthcare teams.
  • Adheres to hospital policies, infection control procedures, patient safety standards, and professional regulations.
  • Participates in departmental meetings, committees, and other administrative activities as required.
  • Performs other related duties and responsibilities as assigned.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS

Education

  • Graduate from a recognized and accredited medical school of good standing.
  • Completion of the required postgraduate training in General Surgery.
  • Arab, Egyptian, Jordanian, Lebanese, or Saudi Board Certification in General Surgery, or an equivalent recognized qualification.
  • Membership, Fellowship, or an equivalent postgraduate qualification recognized for a Senior Registrar position.
  • A professional qualification recognized by the Saudi Commission for Health Specialties (SCFHS) is required.
  • Valid DataFlow verification is required.

Professional Experience

  • 0 - 2 years of post-Board/Fellowship experience in General Surgery.
  • Current or eligible registration with the Saudi Commission for Health Specialties (SCFHS).
  • Demonstrated clinical experience in the assessment and management of a broad range of general surgical conditions.
  • Experience assisting with and performing elective and emergency general surgical procedures within the scope of training and clinical privileges.
  • Proven ability to work effectively within a multidisciplinary healthcare team.

Language

  • Proficiency in English is required.
  • Arabic language proficiency is an advantage, particularly for effective communication with patients and families.
