Librarian

Job Description: We are seeking a highly organized and knowledgeable Librarian to join our team in Cape Town, South Africa. As a Librarian, you will be responsible for managing and maintaining our library collection, as well as assisting students and faculty with research and reference needs. Key Responsibilities: - Develop and maintain a comprehensive library collection, including books, journals, and electronic resources - Organize and classify materials according to the Dewey Decimal System or other classification systems - Assist students and faculty with research and reference inquiries - Provide instruction and guidance on how to use library resources effectively - Manage library circulation, including checking out and returning materials - Maintain accurate records of library materials and transactions - Plan and coordinate library events and programs, such as book clubs and author visits - Evaluate and select new materials to add to the library collection - Collaborate with teachers and faculty to integrate library resources into classroom instruction - Stay current on industry trends and developments in library science - Train and supervise library assistants and volunteers - Ensure the library is clean, organized, and welcoming for all users Qualifications: - Bachelor's degree in Library Science or a related field - Previous experience working in a library setting - Strong knowledge of library cataloging and classification systems - Familiarity with electronic resources and library databases - Excellent research and reference skills - Strong organizational and time-management skills - Excellent communication and interpersonal skills - Ability to work independently and as part of a team - Proficient in computer skills, including Microsoft Office and library software - Knowledge of South African educational materials and resources is a plus If you are passionate about education and have a love for books and learning, we encourage you to apply for this exciting opportunity.
