Local grocery routes out of our West Haven yard. Home every night, a $1,634 weekly minimum and mostly no touch freight.

The Basics

  • Yard: start and finish every day in West Haven, CT
  • Schedule: Thursday to Monday or Friday to Tuesday, 9 AM to 1 PM starts
  • Extra Days: 2 paid 6th days per month, mostly around the major holidays
  • Off: Thanksgiving and Christmas
  • Freight: fresh and frozen groceries, 48 to 53 foot reefers, about 15 or more stops per week

The Money

  • $1,634 weekly minimum on full 5 day weeks
  • $83,600 to $87,600 yearly average over the last 6 to 12 months, by seniority
  • $0.68 to $0.74 per mile
  • $28.50 to $30 per stop, plus $62.50 per NYC load
  • $15 per hour detention
  • $280 holiday pay on 6 paid holidays
  • $200 per day during new hire training

Straight Answers

  • NYC? About 20 to 25% of loads. Not in your first 6 months, and only after training with a certified NYC trainer.
  • Touch freight? Mostly no. Store teams unload. On the 2 to 3 days a week you help nearby accounts, you may use a pallet jack, and we train you on it.
  • Your own truck? No. Automatic and manual day cabs averaging 3 years old or newer, shared with an opposite shift driver and kept at the yard.
  • Where do you go? Connecticut, Hudson Valley and New Jersey, with backhauls that can reach Pennsylvania.

Requirements

  • 21+ with a valid Class A CDL
  • 3 months verifiable tractor-trailer experience in the last 6 months with one carrier, 6 months in the last 12, or 12 months in the last 5 years
  • Reliable transportation to West Haven daily
  • Good customer service skills
  • No more than 2 moving violations and no careless or reckless driving in 3 years
  • No DUI/DWI in 5 years and no major preventable accidents in 3 years
  • Hair and urine drug testing
