About the job CDL-A Dry Van Driver - New Grads and Experienced - Short Runs Near Home
Most dry van jobs out of the desert send you east for weeks. This one keeps you close. Runs normally last no more than three days, freight stays west of the Mississippi, and you are home every two weeks. Drivers from Desert Hot Springs and the Coachella Valley can start here two ways: as a new CDL graduate with paid training, or as an experienced driver ready to run solo.
If you are a new CDL graduate
- $850 a week during training
- 3 to 5 weeks on the road with a mentor (200 to 250 hours)
- Then your own truck and a $1,000 weekly pay guarantee for your first 3 months solo
- CDL-A school of at least 120 hours required
If you already have experience
- 6 months or more of recent tractor-trailer experience
- Mileage pay set by your verifiable experience
- No training period. Orientation, then your own truck
- Same lanes, same home time, same bonus
What the job pays
Solo drivers average $1,000 to $1,200 a week on 1,800 to 2,200 miles. A qualified-driver bonus adds up to six cents a mile. Every stop except the first and last pays $15. When a load needs unload help, such as a pallet jack, liftgate or assist, that work is paid on top.
Where you run
Any state west of the Mississippi. Most loads turn in three days or less, so you pass near home often. If you want bigger miles, you can ask for runs past the Mississippi. Expect some winter driving in the mountain states.
The truck and the extras
- Late-model tractors, about 1.5 years old on average
- Automatic and 10-speed transmissions
- One approved dog up to 40 pounds (trainees after training)
- Adult rider program for solo drivers
- Team driving available if you have a partner
Benefits after 30 days
Medical, prescription, dental and vision plans you build to fit your family. A 401(k), stock purchase plan, life and disability coverage, and a tuition-free online degree for you and one dependent.
Requirements
- Valid Class A CDL, age 21 or older
- No more than 2 moving violations in the last 2 years
- No DUI or DWI in the last 10 years
- DOT physical, hair and urine drug test
