Job Description Waiter

Purpose of Position:

  • Ensures efficient food and beverage (F&B) operations, maintaining high productivity, quality, and guest-service standards in accordance with Vikings STAR Service Standards.
  • Creates a friendly, guest-oriented service culture to ensure guest satisfaction and repeat business.

Responsibilities:

  • Manage, control, and organize the assigned service station, supervising 2 to 4 Assistant Waiters and/or Café Attendants.
  • Manage and control room service orders and dispatch when instructed.
  • Oversee restaurant reservations and seating arrangements, ensuring smooth operations.
  • Conduct stock takes and inventory according to company procedures.
  • Learn and use appropriate food and wine terminology & pronunciation to enhance the guest's dining experience.
  • Be familiar with menu descriptions and wine lists, providing informed recommendations to guests.
  • Present F&B menus to guests, suggest dinner courses and wine pairings, and answer menu-related questions.
  • Relay orders to the Galley using MXP Ordering Software, ensuring timely and efficient service.
  • Serve food and beverages efficiently and courteously, following company standards.
  • Prepare and perform F&B activities such as cocktail parties and Tea Time, as assigned.
  • Maintain assigned inventory stock, ensuring proper storage according to safety and sanitation rules.
  • Ensure assigned areas are set up correctly, following supervisor instructions and SOPs.
  • Minimize equipment loss/damage and maintain high cleanliness standards.
  • Clean and polish glassware, flatware, and equipment, ensuring proper storage after use.
  • Ensure mise-en-place is ready 15 minutes prior to service.
  • Participate in embarkation duties, including luggage assistance and guest escorting.
  • Attend "The Daily Reunion" team meetings to align with operational needs.
  • Maintain impeccable cleanliness and hygiene standards, preparing for guest flow, embarkation/disembarkation, sea days, and onboard activities.
  • Wear the required Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) and use correct lifting techniques.
  • Secure company property, particularly during rough weather conditions.
  • Demonstrate flexibility and adaptability, maintaining a positive attitude under pressure.
  • Gain knowledge of ports of call, shore excursions, and onboard activities.
  • Support achieving Restaurant Department KPIs (quality and financial goals).
  • Follow safety and security policies, participating in fire prevention and evacuation drills.
  • Assist in other departments and perform additional duties as assigned.

Qualification (Your Profile)

  • Minimum 2 years of experience as a Waiter or similar position in a premium hospitality environment.
  • Solid F&B knowledge, including allergy awareness.
  • Shipboard experience is required.
  • Minimum age of 21 years.
  • Physically fit able to carry heavy items, stand, kneel, and bend for prolonged periods.
  • Fluent in English excellent communication skills.
  • Flexible, stress-resistant, team player, with a strong work ethic.
  • Guest-focused, service-oriented, with a positive personality and professional appearance.
  • Impeccable hygiene standards and knowledge of sanitary policies.
