Job Overview:
We are seeking an Engine Cadet to join a container vessel for hands-on training and experience in engine room operations, maintenance, and mechanical systems. The Engine Cadet will work under the supervision of senior engineers to gain practical knowledge and skills necessary for a future career as a Marine Engineer, while ensuring compliance with international maritime regulations and company policies.
Key Responsibilities:
Assist the engineering team in the daily operation and maintenance of main and auxiliary engines, boilers, and other mechanical systems.
Perform routine inspections, cleaning, and lubrication of engine room machinery and equipment.
Monitor fuel and oil levels, reporting any irregularities to senior engineers.
Assist in troubleshooting and repairing mechanical failures under the guidance of experienced engineers.
Participate in safety drills, emergency response training, and pollution control measures.
Ensure compliance with SOLAS, MARPOL, ISM Code, STCW, and company safety policies.
Learn and assist in keeping engine logs, maintenance reports, and spare parts inventory.
Keep the engine room clean, organized, and free of hazards.
Follow instructions from the Chief Engineer, First Engineer, and other senior engineers.
Requirements:
Valid STCW certification and relevant maritime training.
Enrolled in or graduated from a maritime academy or marine engineering cadet program.
Basic understanding of marine engineering principles, propulsion systems, and auxiliary machinery.
Familiarity with SOLAS, MARPOL, ISM Code, and other maritime regulations.
Strong willingness to learn and develop hands-on skills.
Good communication and teamwork abilities.
Fluent in English (basic proficiency for maritime communication).
Physically fit and able to meet maritime medical fitness standards.
