Job Overview:
We are seeking an experienced Chief Engineer to manage and oversee all engineering and mechanical operationsonboard a container vessel. The Chief Engineer will be responsible for the maintenance, troubleshooting, and repair of the ships engines, machinery, and technical systems, ensuring compliance with international maritime regulations and company policies.
Key Responsibilities:
Oversee the operation, maintenance, and repair of the vessels propulsion system, auxiliary engines, and all mechanical equipment.
Ensure compliance with SOLAS, MARPOL, ISM Code, STCW, and company policies regarding engineering operations.
Supervise and manage the engineering team, assigning tasks and ensuring efficient performance.
Conduct routine inspections, troubleshooting, and preventive maintenance on all ship systems.
Maintain proper records of engine logs, maintenance schedules, and spare parts inventory.
Implement and oversee the Planned Maintenance System (PMS) for all machinery and equipment.
Ensure all safety, firefighting, and pollution prevention equipment is in working order.
Coordinate with the Captain, ship management team, and port engineers for smooth operations.
Conduct training sessions for the engineering crew on safety and emergency procedures.
Prepare reports on technical issues, maintenance activities, and fuel consumption for submission to company headquarters.
Requirements:
Valid Chief Engineer License (Unlimited) or equivalent certification.
Minimum 5 years of experience as a Chief Engineer on container vessels.
Strong knowledge of marine engineering, propulsion systems, and auxiliary machinery.
Familiarity with SOLAS, MARPOL, ISM Code, STCW, and other maritime regulations.
Excellent leadership, problem-solving, and decision-making skills.
Strong communication and teamwork abilities.
Fluent in English (additional languages are a plus).
Physically fit and able to meet maritime medical fitness standards.
