Job Description Bar Server

Purpose of Position:

  • Provides beverage service to guests throughout the ship in various service venues.
  • Maintains high sales and service standards, ensuring an exceptional guest experience.
  • Keeps workstations clean, organized, and well-stocked.

Responsibilities:

  • Reports to assigned workstation on time, in proper uniform and nametag.
  • Greets guests by name, escorts them to seats, and presents bar menus.
  • Suggests and promotes beverage selections, demonstrating knowledge of the bar menu.
  • Takes guest orders accurately and relays them to the bartender.
  • Ensures that liquor brands served match what was ordered.
  • Uses a shot glass when pouring highballs and serves drinks in the correct glass with proper garnish.
  • Presents guests with separate checks at the end of service and processes transactions.
  • Carries a ballpoint pen for guest signatures and a penlight for dark venues.
  • Thanks guests upon payment and politely bids farewell when they leave.
  • Assists in stocking and restocking bars as required.
  • Meets sales targets for every 12-week period.
  • Works at cocktail parties and private events, serving drinks and canapés.
  • Ensures compliance with USPH regulations and company sanitation policies.
  • Adheres to drinking age policies and responsible alcohol service guidelines.
  • Attends bar staff meetings and training sessions regularly.
  • Maintains personal appearance, hygiene, and professional behavior.
  • Reports accidents or dangerous occurrences to management.
  • Assists guests and crew with general inquiries about ship services.
  • Performs additional duties as assigned by supervisors.

Qualification (Your Profile)

Hiring Requirements:

  • Minimum 1 year of beverage-related experience (shipboard experience preferred).
  • High school diploma or vocational training required.
  • Ability to analyze and interpret documents such as recipes and manuals.
  • Basic math skills to calculate tips, commissions, and discounts.
  • Ability to solve practical problems and follow written/verbal instructions.

Internal Candidate Requirements:

  • Completion of at least one contract as Bar Utility with a satisfactory performance rating.
  • Demonstrated leadership and teamwork skills.

Language Requirements:

  • Fluent in English able to speak, read, and write clearly.
  • Ability to follow written procedures and instructions.
  • Knowledge of Spanish, French, or German is preferred.

Physical Requirements:

  • Ability to stand, walk, reach, and handle items continuously.
  • Ability to lift/move up to 50 lbs occasionally.
  • Must have full range of motion in arms and legs and be able to participate in emergency drills.
