Job Description Security Guard
Purpose of Position:
- Controls entry to the ship during Gangway Operations and performs security screening as per the Security Manual in SQM.
- Conducts night patrols, ensuring compliance with the Masters Rules and Regulations.
- Operates under the supervision of the Watchkeeping Officer, with the Chief Officer Safety/Security Officer on call for support.
Responsibilities:
- Follow The Royal Way, SQM standards, USPH guidelines, environmental, and safety policies.
- Maintain a professional and courteous demeanor with guests and crew.
- Complete the familiarization process as outlined in Chapter 2 of the security manual.
- Understand Safety and Quality Management Programs, including emergency plans and station bill duties.
- Monitor day and night security, recording activities in the Night Report Log for the Security Officer.
- Conduct safety rounds and gangway security duties, following procedures outlined in the Security Manual.
- Preserve the safety of the vessel, passengers, and crew through constant observation.
- Respond immediately to fire alarms, making quick decisions based on training.
- Inform the Duty Officer on the Bridge of any security incidents.
- Be prepared to take emergency action in any situation.
- Familiarize with and handle safety-related equipment as outlined in Chapter 2 of the familiarization form.
- Respond to "Alpha Alpha Alpha" emergencies as per established procedures.
- Act as an additional spotter for any ship-related problems, including passenger, crew, or security issues.
- Conduct frequent security inspections in crew quarters during duty hours.
- Attend meetings, training activities, courses, and work-related events.
- Perform additional duties as assigned by management.
Qualification (Your Profile)
Hiring Requirements:
- Minimum 4 years of experience in one of the following fields:
- Military (Army/Navy/Air Force/Maritime)
- Aviation Security
- Police or Law Enforcement
- Hotel Security
- Strong experience in physical security, with expertise in access control, security screening, x-ray & metal detector operation, and explosives/narcotics detection.
- Must be able to work in a multinational environment.
- Strong organizational skills and basic computer literacy preferred.
- Holds STCW 95 Basic Safety Training Certification.
- Familiar with the ISPS Code and ship security operations.
Internal Candidate Requirements:
- Completion of one contract with a satisfactory performance rating or higher.
Language Requirements:
- Fluent in English ability to speak, read, and write clearly.
- Ability to give and receive written/verbal instructions, including responding to guests and supervisors.
- Additional language skills (Spanish, French, Italian, Portuguese, German, etc.) are preferred.
Physical Requirements:
- Regularly required to stand, walk, use hands, reach, talk, and hear.
- Occasionally required to lift and/or move up to 50 lbs.
- Must have full visual, verbal, and hearing abilities for emergency response and participation in drills.
- Must be physically able to assist in emergency lifeboat operations.
