The Longshoreman III
Responsible for the loading, unloading, moving or handling of cargo; (container, bulk, breakbulk, shipping containers, oil barrels, gear, or any other materials / cargo) into, in, on, or out of any vessel and/or train in a responsible, safe and efficient manner.
Responsibilities:
- Prior Longshoreman experience preferred, but not required.
- Ability to works outside on terminals / docks and warehouse.
- Communicate verbally and/or uses hand signals.
- May instruct Yard Hustler Drivers on specific location to line up Yard Hustler in order for the crane to be able to load or offload the container or cargo.
- May be required to handle tools and/or lashing materials.
- May engage and disengage automatic locks (15-20 lbs.) which are set in between the containers to hold in place during transport and place in gearbox.
- May be required to place or remove dunnage including but not limited to under blades, buckets, or other attachments that would rest on transport surface.
- Must remain clear of moving tracks and attached equipment.
- May use push broom to sweep discarded materials to designated area.
- May place ISO fittings.
- May be required to hook and unhook lifting gear.
Working Conditions:
- Work is 100% outdoors.
- Candidate will work in weather conditions like heat, rain & cold.
- Occasionally work in enclosed spaces (vessel hatch).
- Capable of walking, bending, stooping, and climbing ladders up & down up to 100ft.
- Must have valid Driver's License and/or State ID.
- Must have an active Transportation Worker identification Credential (TWIC) Card
- Dependable & reliable mode of transportation to and from work. (Every-Day)
- The ability and willingness to work in a team environment.
- Ability to work 20-80+ hours a week based on vessel needs.
- Reports to Gang Foreman.
